The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), commonly known as Abay Dam, is the largest hydroelectric power project in Africa and a defining symbol of Ethiopia’s ambition, resilience, and regional leadership.

Official Name: Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD)

Local Name: Abay Dam

River: Blue Nile (Abay River)

Location: Benishangul-Gumuz Region, western Ethiopia

Construction Start: April 2011

Expected Capacity: 6,450 MW (Megawatts)

Reservoir Capacity: ~74 billion cubic meters

⚙️ Purpose and Benefits:

Energy Generation: Supplies clean, renewable energy to millions in Ethiopia and potentially neighboring countries.

በዘንድሮው በጀት ዓመቱ 241‌.4 ቢሊዮን ብር ለመሰብሰብ ታቅዶ የነበረ ሲሆን 233 ቢሊዮን ብር በመሰብሰብ የዕቅዱን 96.5 % ማሳካት ተችሏል።

ይህም ከባለፈው በጀት ዓመት 83.3 ቢሊዮን ብር ብልጫ ያለው ወይም 45 በመቶ እድገት በከተማዋ ገቢ ላይ እድገት ያሳየ ነው። ያልተሰበሰበው 8 ቢሊዮን ብር ከእርዳታ እና ብድር ይገኛል ተብሎ በተጨማሪ በጀት የታወጀ ነበር።

ለውጥና እድገት በራስ አቅም ሲሆን መሰረቱ ሰፊ፤ ምሰሶውም ጠንካራ ይሆናል።
ውድ የከተማችን ነዋሪዎች፤ ውድ ግብር ከፋዮቻችን፤ ውድ የገቢዎች ቢሮ ሰራተኞችና አመራሮች እንዲሁም ወድ ባለድርሻ አካላት ለተገፕዉ ስኬት በራሴ እና በከተማው አስተዳደር ስም እዲሁም በከተማችን ነዋሪዎች ስም አመሰግናለሁ።
