Melkam Addis Amet! To usher in Ethiopian year 2019, we invite you to a special New Year’s Eve concert this Thursday, featuring the Four Star Band with the legend Girma Beyene, the all-women band Etege, Azmari music and special guests! On Friday the Day of the New Year, we will wait for you with GunGun Band’s traditional Ethiopian music and dance! Fendika Cultural Center’s 2018 was filled with daily Azmari performances, weekly traditional music/dance by Ethiocolor or GunGun, and regular Jazz concerts. We have also hosted special concerts for international musicians from Britain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Ireland, Japan (3 concerts for 3 groups), Colombia, USA, Brazil, Portugal, and Argentina. In Ethiopian Year 2018, Ethtiocolor toured to Japan, UAE, Kenya and Ivory Coast (MASA). Fendika Cultural Center signed an MOU and became an official partner of Wollo University. I had the honor of receiving the French Medal for Officer of Arts and Letters this past year; and celebrated my 50th birthday with so many of my family and friends from all over the world – I know that I’ve never been alone in all of my life’s work and commitment to the arts and to Ethiopian culture. Thank you Hyatt Regency for being a steadfast partner and all of our audiences and supporters! In this past year, we have obtained the permission to rebuild Fendika, thanks to the government’s recognition of Fendika’s social and cultural value. This is really a critical time! To rebuild Fendika, we need all of your support more than ever! Together we will continue to build peace through art. May there be peace in the world and in all our hearts! Yours, Melaku
