U.S. Embassy Warns of Aircraft in Distress Near Djibouti Airbase

The U.S. Embassy in Djibouti has issued an urgent public warning after receiving reports of an aircraft in distress in Djiboutian airspace, advising people to avoid the area surrounding Chabelley Airbase until further notice.

In a statement, the embassy said it was closely monitoring the situation and urged members of the public to stay away from the area around the military facility while authorities assess the incident and determine whether there is any continuing risk.

“U.S. Embassy Djibouti is currently tracking an aircraft in distress in Djiboutian airspace. Avoid the area around Chabelley Airbase until further notice,” the embassy said.

The embassy issued the same warning in French, reiterating its request for people to avoid the vicinity of Chabelley Airbase.

The alert did not provide details about the aircraft involved, including its type, operator, flight path or destination. It was also not immediately clear whether the aircraft had landed, crashed or remained airborne when the warning was issued.
