Akobo County Secondary School decry lack of sponsorship and financial support to sustain its operations

July 22, 2026, students and teachers at Akobo Secondary School said the school is facing serious operational challenges as the government cut off support for the teachers’ salary payments after renewed conflict in Akobo.

The school appeals to international and national organizations , well wishers and philanthropists to fill the gap.

The teachers at Akobo secondly school have not been paid since February. Students lack exercise books, pens, textbooks and libraries.

The teachers do not have incentives and the school do not have enough rooms to accommodate all classs.

SPLM/A-IO and Panyijiar Armed Youth Repulse Attack by SSPDF and Rumbek Armed Youth

July 16,2026-Panyijiar,

Forces of the SPLM/A-IO and Panyijiar armed youth have repulsed an attack launched early this morning by the Hungry SSPDF and armed youth from Yirol and Rumbek East .

According to local sources, the attackers were badly defeated and forced to retreat to different locations. The SSPDF side reportedly suffered heavy casualties.

The situation in the area remains tense as authorities have not yet issued an official statement.

Sudan Rejects Inclusion of Abyei in South Sudan's Electoral Constituencies

The Government of Sudan has rejected what is says South Sudan's decision to include the Abyei Administrative Area among the country's electoral constituencies for the general elections scheduled for December 22, 2026.

According to a statement dated July 13th, published on the Sudan News Agency (SUNA) page, Sudan said the decision by South Sudan's National Elections Commission to designate Abyei as one of 102 geographical constituencies violates the 2005 Abyei Protocol and the 2011 Agreement on Temporary Security and Administrative Arrangements for the disputed region.

In the statement, Sudan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said the agreements, which are referenced in United Nations Security Council Resolution 2046 of 2012, require the two countries to negotiate the final status of Abyei and do not permit unilateral actions affecting the territory.

The Sudanese government called on South Sudan to comply with existing agreements and urged the United Nations, regional organizations, and other international partners to support the implementation of the accords governing Abyei.

It also reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining good neighbourly relations while preserving what it described as its legal rights under the existing agreements.

The Abyei Area remains a disputed territory between Sudan and South Sudan, with its final status yet to be determined through a referendum as provided for under 2005 agreements.

Hundred of civilians in Akobo County held a peaceful protest demoing the immediate release of WFP cash assistance money held at Juba International Airport by government security

July 1, 2026, hundred of civilians held a peaceful protest in Akobo County protesting humanitarian restriction imposed on items and goods destined for Akobo community.

The governor of Jonglei State Dr. Riek G*i Kok has been prevented essential fuel , medical supplies, cash assistance and all commercial flights destined for Akobo in violation of the promise made to ensure safe delivery of humanitarian operations in areas controlled by government and opposition forces.

Protestors call for immediate lifting of sanctions imposed on Akobo community include release of essential medical supplies, none food items, cash assistance money and all commercial flights.

The protesters appealed to central government to hold the governor of Jonglei State Dr. Riek G*i Kok accountable for killing civilians through forced starvation and collective punishment.

Humanitarian aid should not be used as a weapon of war.

The protested asked the International community to take serious measures against the government of South Sudan to ensure humanitarian interventions reach to the intended beneficiaries without restrictions of any kind.

SPLM-IO Clarifies: Movement Has Not Changed Its Name, Leadership, or Identity

The Sudan People's Liberation Movement-in-Opposition (SPLM-IO) has dismissed claims that it has changed its name following the registration of Stephen Par Kuol's faction as the IO Party by the Political Parties Council (PPC).

In a statement, SPLM-IO member Hon. Juol Nhomngek said the movement remains intact under its historic name and political identity, with Dr. Riek Machar Teny serving as Chairperson, Oyet Nathaniel Pierino as Acting Chairperson, and Regina Joseph Kapa as Secretary-General.

The movement stressed that the newly registered IO Party is a separate political organization and is not affiliated with or authorized to represent the SPLM-IO in any capacity.

SPLM-IO further reaffirmed its commitment to the full implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement (R-ARCSS), political dialogue, and the creation of conditions necessary for free, fair, and credible elections.

The movement called on members and supporters who may have joined the IO Party under the belief that it was still part of SPLM-IO to return to what it described as their "legitimate political home."

"Names may change elsewhere, but the SPLM-IO remains the SPLM-IO," the statement concluded.

I later found out that she was married, something she did not tell me at the time. What I have been through since then has been frightening and humbling. I have learned a hard lesson: I will never touch or hold another man’s wife, even in a performance, without clear consent and boundaries.
