😂💀 STORYTIME: When Hip-Hop Met Hunger.
So picture this: It’s September 2014, and I’m out here fresh from surviving a genocide.
Yes. Not a bad breakup. Not a Twitter scandal. A whole-ass GENOCIDE.
December 15, 2013 — Juba, South Sudan.
I escaped with my life and barely my dignity. No food, no studio, no manager… just vibes and trauma. 🎤🔥
Then boom 💥
South Africa’s #1 Hip-Hop Magazine slides in like:
“Yo, you’re different. We need you for an interview.”
And I’m like, “Sure, why not, I got stories.”
Then they said:
“We’ll sponsor a photoshoot — $500 budget.” 💸
Bruhhh 😭😭😭
At that time, I was so broke I couldn’t even afford to refuse that offer.
Y’all really think I was gonna hit them with:
“Oh no, I’m a revolutionary, I don’t take money for photoshoots…”
😂😂 HELL NO.
I took that money like it was my birthright.
Posed like the cover was already in the Hall of Fame. 📸
Let’s be honest, what did you expect me to do?
Say no to $500 during a post-war hunger era?!
C’mon now. Even Moses would’ve said yes.
But I didn’t just take pictures.
I rewrote history with that camera flash.
I made $500 look like a million-dollar prophecy.
And the streets of South Africa?
They knew.
They felt it.
They printed it.
So if you’re just joining the journey, welcome.
If you were there since the $500 era — salute.
And if you ever offered me water back then — I probably still owe you.
🙏🏻
