Dear Readers,
In this issue, we spotlight the Capstone Building by ZIAS Architects—an exemplary case of bold urban design and thoughtful spatial articulation. Situated at a key intersection near Balcha Hospital, the building transforms the traditional corner treatment into a sculpted, transparent frustum that anchors its identity. This architectural gesture not only responds to the site but also becomes the heart of the building—inviting light, views, and interaction.
Programmatically diverse, the Capstone houses retail, restaurants, cinemas, offices, and government spaces, culminating in a rooftop garden that offers sweeping views of Addis Ababa’s skyline. The interplay between solid mass and transparent void defines both its form and materiality, blending concrete, brick, glass, and greenery to deliver a rich spatial and tactile experience. More than just a structure, the Capstone Building is a testament to how local architecture, supported by BIM technologies and interdisciplinary collaboration, is embracing global standards while maintaining a strong sense of place.
And with that, I leave you here to enjoy our carefully curated content and look forward to your contributions on our upcoming issues.
