Coming up this month in Helsinki! Solo concert by Gleb Kanasevich – “We only have but a moment”
30.11.25
19:00
Free entry

Gleb Kanasevich’s new solo project “We only have but a moment” delivers a highly intimate experience through its sonic purity and psychoacoustic intensity. Conjured just with extremely still clarinet playing and a six-speaker pure wave setup, the set creates a warm, secluded corner for individual reflection and existence in a “space with no walls.” It’s a seemingly subtle test of physical endurance for the performer that still flows effortlessly throughout.

Gleb Kanasevich is a clarinetist and composer based in Detroit, MI. He is an active soloist and session musician, having recently worked with indie rock bands, death metal bands, A24 films, and Netflix. He has been closely working with the Ukrainian Contemporary Music Festival in New York City since 2021, frequently covering the festival’s electronic and live sound needs, concert production, and clarinet duties. He is currently the festival’s chief operating officer. As a composer he is interested in exploring expressive possibilities in very simple electronic setups, stark sonic landscapes, and extremely fine microtonality.

Most recently, he was commissioned by Ensemble Intercontemporain, Michigan State University’s Musique 21, Callithumpian Consort (Boston), and No Exit New Music Ensemble (Cleveland). His newest solo record “We Only Have But A Moment” is to be released in early 2026 on Flag Day Recordings. From 2016 until Spring, 2019, Kanasevich also worked as a curator/video maker for the online new music database and audio/video/score resource ScoreFollower/Incipitsify.

Microtonal Music Studios is going through changes, as our funding ended in May 2025 we no longer can support artist practice in the same way, but are looking for alternatives. Since 2022 we had 30 student participants, 65 teachers, workshops, leaders, and visiting artists and 108 individual events with several exhibitions and workshops in Finland and abroad will well over a thousand visitors and audience members experiencing, learning, and participating! Not to mention that our book is coming out soon, keep a look out for it! Thank you everybody, without you all it would not have been possible. Thank you Koneen Säätiö - Kone Foundation, Saastamoisen säätiö - Saastamoinen Foundation, and Myymälä2 for your support!

David “Fuze” Fiuczynski visitng artist at Microtonal Musoc Studios for May 2025 will present a concert at WHS Theatre on 15.05 from 19.00.

The concert is a Microtonal Music Studios collaboration with WHS Theatre Union and Myymälä2 gallery.

Fiuczynski’s KiF layers Eastern-inflected melodies into high energy funk rock house ska reggae drumNbass electronica grooves into an other-worldly mix moving from swinging, danceable beats to plaintive meditations over lush, brooding and at times microtonal harmonies. KiF was conceived, quite appropriately, at a musical meeting in Marrakech where Moroccan players repeatedly mentioned that Jimi Hendrix had visited the country. Thus was the inspiration for KiF….. Jimi playing hard grooves with Mid-Eastern inflected melodies blending dervishes, minarets, spires, desert sands in the mind of an audience entranced by colorful, multicultural musical palettes… could this be the music that Jimi would play today?
