FCT Minister Wike's Action Poses Clear Threat to National Security, Affront to President Tinubu - Buratai.

The events of November 11, 2025, involving the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Wike, demand an immediate and serious response. His public disparagement of a uniformed officer of the Nigerian Armed Forces transcends mere misconduct; it represents a palpable threat to national security and institutional integrity.

A minister’s verbal assault on a military officer in uniform is an act of profound indiscipline that strikes at the core of our nation's command and control structure. It deliberately undermines the chain of command, disrespects the authority of the Commander-in-Chief, and grievously wounds the morale of every individual who serves under the Nigerian flag. Such actions erode the very foundation of discipline upon which our national security apparatus stands.

This can not be dismissed as political theatre. It is a reckless endangerment of national order. This action by Wike is clearly an indication of undermining the federal government’s authority.

Consequently, Barrister Nyesom Wike must tender an immediate and unequivocal public apology to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Commander-in-Chief, the entire Armed Forces of Nigeria, and the specific officer whose honour was violated.

Our nation's security must come first. It is time for decisive action, not politics of military bashing. The integrity of our Armed Forces demands nothing less.

Lieutenant A.M. Yerima, the Principal Officer to General A.Z. Gambo (rtd), is a disciplined soldier serving under lawful authority. His duty is clear, to obey the last legitimate command within the chain of command. He has committed no offense whatsoever.

When Minister Nyesom Wike contacted the current Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), hoping to override military procedure and have Lt. Yerima withdrawn from the site, the young officer stood his ground with dignity. He reminded the CDS that he was acting strictly under orders and within the law.

It must also be understood that General A.Z. Gambo holds a higher seniority than the current CDS. In the military, hierarchy and discipline are nonnegotiable. That is why several senior officers have openly aligned themselves with Lt. Yerima, not out of sentiment, but in defense of institutional order.

The CDS, maintaining professionalism, assured Lt. Yerima that the matter was under control and instructed him to continue enforcing law and order peacefully. At the end of the day, it was not the soldier who backed down, it was the Minister.

In principle and by the Constitution, the Nigerian Army does not take directives from any civilian authority except the President, the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces.

I also believe that Minister Wike owes Lt. A.M. Yerima and the Nigerian military an unreserved apology for labeling the officer a “fool,” especially after the officer had clearly stated that he was acting under instructions. Such words are unbecoming of a public officeholder and undermine the professionalism of the Armed Forces.

My dear Brothers, Sisters, Friends, Supporters, and Ndi Anambra,

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to every one of you who stood with us on this remarkable journey. Your unwavering support, voices, strength, time, and prayers have been the cornerstone of our campaign. I deeply appreciate our campaign team and all my supporters for standing firm and believing in our vision to serve Anambra with compassion, courage, and competence.

Though the election outcome may not have been what we desired, I am profoundly proud of the effort that Prince Dr. Nicholas Ukachukwu and I did put into this race. I am humbled by the outpouring of love and support we received that has written a victory of faith, unity, and hope, a victory that no ballot can erase.

To the young people who walked the streets, the mothers who prayed through the nights, and every individual who carried our dream in their hearts, I am deeply moved by your sacrifices. You have shown that politics can indeed be about people and purpose.

As we move forward, I urge everyone to support every effort directed towards the peace, progress and unity of our beloved Anambra State. The interest of our state must always come first.

I extend my warm congratulations to His Excellency, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo CFR, on his victory and re-election for a second term. I sincerely wish him success in leading Anambra to greater heights.

When Anambra succeeds, we all succeed. I therefore encourage all stakeholders to join hands to build a stronger, more prosperous state.
