Sigatoka, Fiji – Tournament organisers are pleased to announce that the Chinese Women’s 7s program will make its first appearance at the 2026 McDonald’s Coral Coast Fiji 7s, with two teams confirmed to compete in the Shangri-La Yanuca Island Women’s Division.

The inclusion of the Chinese Women’s 7s teams marks a significant milestone for the tournament, further strengthening the international depth and quality of the women’s competition. Both teams will travel to Fiji ready to test themselves against elite regional and international opposition, bringing speed, structure, and physicality to the Coral Coast stage.

The decision to send two teams underlines China’s growing investment in women’s rugby sevens and their commitment to providing international exposure and competitive opportunities for their athletes. Their participation adds another exciting dimension to an already strong field in the Shangri-La Yanuca Island Women’s Division.

Tournament organisers welcomed the announcement, noting that the arrival of the Chinese Women’s 7s teams reflects the continued growth and global appeal of the McDonald’s Coral Coast Fiji 7s, particularly as a destination event for women’s rugby.

The 2026 tournament promises to deliver world-class rugby, vibrant cultural experiences, and strong international representation, with fans set to witness a historic first for China at one of the most respected sevens tournaments in the world.

The 2026 McDonald’s Coral Coast Fiji 7s will take place in January 2026 at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka, featuring the McDonald’s Men’s Division, the Shangri-La Yanuca Island Women’s Division, and the BRED Bank Youth Division.

The NZ Fijian Cavaliers are thrilled to confirm their participation in the 2026 McDonald’s Coral Coast Fiji 7s in Sigatoka. The team will be making its debut at a tournament known for bringing together some of the toughest and most exciting sevens teams and players in the world.

Eager to showcase their rugby spirit, the Cavaliers bring a blend of heart, passion, and a balanced NZ Fijian style to the world famous Coral Coast Sevens.

The coaching team is spearheaded by Former Fiji representative Akuila Matanibukaca and Fiji 7s legend Mr Pio Tuwai, with expert guidance from NZ 7s greats Mr Eric Rush and Mr Amasio Valence Raoma. Together, this experience team of former legends will be transforming their world class playing experience into professional coaching excellence. Their combined knowledge, leadership, and understanding of international sevens will be the key strength to the Cavaliers’ preparation, ensuring the team arrives in at the Tournament prepared to face some of the best teams and players in today’s 7s era. With this coaching leadership, the Cavaliers aim to deliver an energetic, disciplined, and exciting brand of rugby combining New Zealand’s well-known structure with the natural flair and creativity that Fijian rugby is celebrated for around the world.

Tournament Founding Chairman Jay Whyte welcomed the announcement: “The NZ Fijian Cavaliers bring a special energy and culture to the Coral Coast Fiji 7s. Their intention to compete and challenge themselves adds real excitement to the 2026 tournament.”

Fans can look forward to a structured yet fast, skilful, and disciplined brand of rugby from the Cavaliers grounded in teamwork, attitude, humility, and respect for this amazing game and iconic tournament.

Sigatoka, Fiji – Tournament organisers are proud to announce that Malakai Tobau has been officially selected to join the 2026 McDonald’s Mike Friday Select 7s Team, earning the prestigious honour of being named the “Captain’s Pick” by none other than sevens icon Jerry Tuwai.

The Captain’s Pick is reserved for a player whose talent, work ethic, and potential stand out above the rest, and Malakai has continued to impress with his speed, strength, and relentless commitment on the field. His selection adds another layer of excitement to an already star-studded lineup preparing for action at Lawaqa Park.
Jerry Tuwai, regarded as one of the greatest sevens players of all time, said Malakai’s inclusion was an easy choice.

“Malakai has been knocking on the door for years. His hunger, discipline, and passion for the game are exactly what the Captain’s Pick represents. I’m proud to select him—he’s earned this opportunity.”

Malakai expressed heartfelt gratitude and determination as he prepares for the 2026 campaign.
“I just want to thank the Lord for giving me another opportunity to showcase my talent and hopefully get selected in the Fiji Sevens squad—been knocking at the door for quite some time now!”

Tournament Founding Chairman Jay Whyte congratulated Malakai on his selection.

Sigatoka, Fiji – Tournament organisers are pleased to announce that FIJI BLUE, the reigning champions of the McDonald’s Coral Coast Fiji 7s, will return in January 2026 to defend their title and chase an historic three-peat at Lawaqa Park.

FIJI BLUE has dominated the past two editions of the tournament, showcasing discipline, creativity, and the signature Fijian flair that captivates fans both locally and internationally. With Head Coach Osea Kolinisau at the helm and a talented squad preparing for the challenge, the champions are poised for another unforgettable campaign.

The Men’s Division expands to 24 teams in 2026 and of these 24 teams, 14 will be from overseas as a mix of national 7s programs & invitational teams travelling to Fiji to compete alongside the very best local 7s teams in Fiji. All this combined with a first-place prize of FJ$50,000, the stage is set for the most competitive and high-stakes Coral Coast Fiji 7s to date.
Tournament Founding Chairman Jay Whyte said the return of the champions adds immense excitement.
“FIJI BLUE are the benchmark, and having the 2024 tournament ambassador and Fiji 7s head coach Osea lead his side in pursuit of a three-peat lifts the entire tournament. With the incredible depth of both local and overseas teams, FIJI BLUE will need to be at their very best to defend their title—it’s going to be a world-class competition.”

Head Coach Osea Kolinisau said the team is motivated and ready for the challenge.
“We know the target is on our backs, but that’s what makes this tournament special. With so many strong teams coming from overseas, the level will be very high. The boys are focused, excited, and ready to represent Fiji with pride as we chase the three-peat.”

Whyte added that the expanded field reflects the tournament’s growing international standing.
“Twenty-four teams, fourteen from overseas, and FJ$50k on the line speaks volumes about the global appeal of the Coral Coast Fiji 7s. Teams want to be here, and fans can expect the best sevens action anywhere in the world.”

With anticipation building, fans can look forward to three days of electrifying rugby, international rivalries, and Fijian entertainment as FIJI BLUE attempts to cement their legacy in January 2026.
