Three days in Hamburg — and once again, I was reminded just how much I love Germany ❤️
I’ve visited more than a dozen German cities, and every trip around this country somehow feels like a honeymoon to me. I love the architecture, the atmosphere, the nature, the food, the people — Germany is one of those places where I always feel especially happy.
Hamburg was yet another confirmation of that love ❤️
📍 The view from St.Nikolai Church
Even though it’s in northern Germany and we got caught in some pretty heavy rain a few times over those three days, the city never felt gloomy to me. Quite the opposite — it felt lively, beautiful and romantic. Hamburg is the German Venice, with canals and bridges running all through the city 💙
The architecture is stunning. Parts of the old town look as if they were designed specifically for postcards: red-bricks, church towers, the incredible Rathaus — everything is just alsolutely beautiful 🤍
At the same time, Hamburg has a very complex history. The Great Fire of the 19th century destroyed a huge part of the city, and during World War II Hamburg suffered devastating bombing raids. Knowing all of this makes you look at the city today in a completely different way and appreciate just how carefully and beautifully it was rebuilt.
Hamburg is also famous for its red-light district, the Reeperbahn 🫦 And this was probably my biggest “is that it?” moment of the entire trip 😅 For some reason, I expected it to be much more impressive, unusual or atmospheric. In reality, it wasn’t particularly bright or crowded, and honestly, that part of the city didn’t leave much of an impression on me at all.
The connection of old and new story 🤍
A small selfie-offtopic 😄
The food, however, definitely did. Traditional fish dishes, German sausages and, of course, classic European cuisine — all enjoyed on cosy terraces and in beautiful restaurants and cafés. Hamburg turned out to be a very delicious city.
