Another wonderful article by Dice Daniel, who treats us to his prose (in English or Dutch—you have the choice, although the game is only available in English and French at the moment).

As always, I encourage you to read it; it’s well-written and explains the gameplay very clearly :)
But I’ll borrow one of his lines anyway: The game is especially interesting for players who are curious about wargames but do not want to drown in rulebooks immediately, and for experienced players looking for a short, sharp confrontation.

One of the major draws of Urban Operations is the variety of settings. Urban Operations: Second Edition has 16 historical and hypothetical scenarios, including scenarios covering:
Western units battling Somali militia in Mogadishu in 1993
The British in Basra in 2003 and USMC in Fallujah in 2004
The Russians in Grozny in 1999
Hypothetical WW3 clashes between Soviet and NATO forces in Fulda in 1985

Another draw is the realism of the game. Players can expect to have to deal with night fighting, civilian population displacement, breaching and how to use armour and support in an urban setting.

Urban Operations simulates tactical combat in a range of urban settings. It uses unique mechanics for chain of command, logistical support, collateral damage and close-quarters combat.

Units are represented by blocks and other elements are concealed, vividly capturing the chaos and fog of war that is found in urban combat.
