While it's easy for me to tell you where to get a great cup of coffee in Paris, tracking down the right beans is a next-level challenge. Thankfully Comyu has started rounding up all the local roasters, their inventory, and even the coffee shops serving their beans. If you've ever wondered what coffee it was you drank at that one coffee shop, or wanted to keep track of the cups you loved the most, you'll want to grab COMYU and start a record. It's free and increasingly supported by the local coffee community - comment "coffee" below and I'll shoot you a DM to download it for iPhone or Android.

Coffee

Despite what you might think, I don't actually live in coffee shops around Paris (as much of a dream as that would be). I make a lot of coffee at home, both because I love it and because it's more economical - but getting good coffee to make at home is its own challenge. I have my lazy way of doing it, my more adventurous way, and a new way I wanted to share with you. If you watch part II you'll find out more, but you could be adventurous on your own and comment "coffee" below and I'll DM you a link before part II even comes out ;D

I keep putting this off because I hate shopping and because I keep hoping that maybe if I just try them again my Timberlands will be nicer to me this time... but then they never are. And then Paul was wearing his today and HIS legs started to hurt. That convinced me to abandon them altogether. But what do I replace them with?

With Notre Dame the 4th arrondissement of Paris is a no brainer. In fact, now that it's open again, you're basically legally required to pay a visit to the 4th every time you visit Paris from now on. There is so much to love here, even if I often say the Marais is overrated (but that's more for those of us who live here - if it's your first time visiting, it's probably right-rated). So wander the river, check out the stained glass at Sainte Chapelle (technically in the 1e but who's counting?) and in another five years you'll be able to visit the Pompidou again too.

I wasn't kidding when I said the candles in Notre Dame were the warmest spot I'd found the entire time - crazy how much heat those little guys put out. Whether you're heading to the cathedral, popping by Hotel de Ville for an event, or wandering the islands in search of coffee at Mini Cafe, it's hard to go wrong wandering Paris' 4th arrondissement. And we barely scratched the surface. Where's your favorite spot?

While most of this series is set to be me exploring new places, it's really hard not to visit Notre Dame after missing her for so many years when visiting Paris' 4th arrondissement. Feels very new in a lot of ways. Have you been in yet?

If you're looking for food in the very center of Paris, then the Haut Marais or Paris' 3rd arrondissement is going to be the place to land. There are drawbacks here for the first time visitor, but not big ones in my opinion. Especially if you like food and shopping (and fashion). I can't believe I forgot to mention the Carnavalet as well - my favorite museum in Paris which is also the museum OF Paris - you've got to hit that up if you find you love Paris as much as I do (and it's free!).

Did you know there was a museum of failure in Paris? It's only going to be here for a little while and it sounded fun to me (if a little inspiring on the schadenfreude front) so I thought we could visit it in the 3rd arrondissement of Paris, at the Arts et Metiers museum. Thankfully, as an experience, it was not a fail of its own.

The classic hidden gem that is the 2e (or Paris' 2nd arrondissement in English) - as ranked for first time visitors. Are you coming to Paris soon? Which monuments and museums have you most excited? Any particular food?

Do you know the covered passageways of central Paris? A great escape from rainy days and errant horse muck. If you have a take on them (and department stores), I'm curious to hear them. In the meantime, I have another restaurant to try. Tough life, I know.
