Anna Vyrubova, a close confidante of Empress Alexandra Feodorovna of Russia, played a crucial role in preserving photographic records of the last Russian royal family, the Romanovs. As a lady-in-waiting and trusted friend, Vyrubova had intimate access to the royal family during their most private moments. She was passionate about photography and often captured candid images of Tsar Nicholas II, his wife Alexandra, and their children, especially during the years leading up to the Russian Revolution. These photographs, many taken by Vyrubova herself or under her supervision, offer a rare glimpse into the personal lives of the Romanovs, portraying them in informal, familial settings. Thanks to her efforts, these images have survived and today serve as an invaluable visual archive of the imperial family’s final years, offering a poignant reminder of their tragic fate.
