🇫🇷 GIVING BIRTH IN FRANCE: MEDICAL SAFETY OR A TIRELESS CONVEYOR BELT? 🤔
Hey mamas! 👋 Today, let's talk about the reality of birthing in France. 🥐 France is famous for its top-tier medical system, and at first glance, the birth statistics look... well, practically flawless. ✨
📈 Data shows France is one of the safest countries in Europe to have a baby. 🏥 Highly qualified doctors, state-of-the-art equipment, and extremely low infant mortality. 🚑 Almost 100% of births happen in hospitals under the watchful eye of a full medical squad. 👩⚕️👨⚕️
But behind these beautiful numbers hides another, more triggering reality. 💥
🌀 THE OXYTOCIN CONVEYOR BELT 🌀
According to recent data, a staggering 82.4% of women in France give birth with an epidural! 😲 Here, it’s practically considered the "default." 💁♀️ Many sage-femmes (midwives) and anesthesiologists are genuinely surprised if you say you want an unmedicated birth. 🤷♀️ Giving birth without an epidural is usually either due to medical contraindications, for the bravest of the brave, or for those who just didn't make it to the maternity ward in time! 🏃♀️
And here is the most important part. 👂 Recent studies and public debates in France are highlighting a growing number of complaints about what is called "violences obstétricales" — obstetric violence. 😢 This isn't necessarily about physical harm; it's about the loss of control, consent, and respect for a woman's body.
Statistics 📊 record physical safety (mom and baby survived). But they do not record:
✅ Respect for informed consent 🤐
✅ The freedom to choose a comfortable birthing position 🤸♀️
✅ Emotional support in the heat of the moment 🤝
✅ How the woman actually feels after this perfectly "safe" process. ❤️🩹
It’s a paradox: medically, everything is as safe as it gets, but emotionally, it can feel empty, scary, or even traumatic. 💔 The system works like a Swiss watch 🕰, but it often forgets about the human soul.
📢 What about you? Have you given birth in France? How did you feel within this system? 👇
