[VOX10R] Parween - Point : RESSORTIE VINYLE

Après la ressortie de "Traité pour une croyance de l'évènement" en 2020 pour leur 10 ans, Vox Project s'apprête à célébrer les 15, et continue de clamer haut et fort leur amour pour Parween. Cette fois avec "Point", dernier album en date du quartet Parisien, qui se voit offrir un pressage vinyle, limité à 100 exemplaires, en collaboration avec le très prolifique Araki Records .

Sorti pour la première en CD à l'été 2013, l'album embrasse définitivement le virage surréaliste entamé avec "traité". Exit le screamo-hardcore de leurs jeunes années, le Parween embrasse désormais un Art-Rock, noisy, poétique et un tantinet bruitiste. Un style littéraire qui n'a pas toujours fait l'unanimité, bien qu'entre les deux disques, les chroniqueurs ont un peu mieux compris, ou peut-être se sont-ils habitués, passant d' "imbuvable" à "fichtrement bien". Une belle progression.

À l'intérieur, les guitares de Yann Daniel (Comity) y sont toujours aussi captivantes, gonflées à l'harmonizer, elles oscillent des douceurs mélodiques à la brutalité bruitiste. Sur quelques titres il vient aussi ajouter un saxophone rêveur, endossant pour quelques virées, le rôle du synthé dans cette formation analogique. A la batterie, Sylvain Biguet à laissé sa place à Joseph Delaware. Poursuivant l'héritage d'un jeu très musical, il y apporte des textures assumant une certaine frontalité. Par dessus les déflagrations musicales, les textes littéraires et scandés de Mickaël Marchal (Titus d'Enfer), toujours très ouverts par leur dimension poétique, les thématiques sont cette fois travaillés sur la vieillesse et sa déliquescence. La diminution du champ des possibles.

Ici, on a pas tout à fait envie que les mémoires perdent de vue un groupe qui nous a ouvert tant de champs. Un groupe qui devrait continuer de nous accompagner vers les inévitables naufrages de nos vies. Alors une nouvelle fois : Célébrons ! Réhabilitons !

We've thrown ourselves into it, a whole cohort of labels committed to defend this little piece of eroding granite, RAPAKIVI. This is proof that something is happening.

This first EP is only five tracks long, but it's already steeped in stories. First and foremost, one about three childhood friends from Brittany, uprooted in Paris, who have been tinkering with music since 2011 before arriving in 2023 at this final form: VITILIGOES. A bond honed over the years which explains the astonishing maturity of this first release; a hybrid work, nourished by common inspirations, shared through adventures, currents, and discoveries.

Soaked in the solar power of the mountaintops, fresh and rocky, Vitiligoes' music is complex but always fluid. Fundamentally pop and ethereal, the expedition to reach the summit sailed near the reefs of post, a stone's throw from the paths of psych and the most distant plains of math.

To create it, Clément's minimalist drums, inspired by Horse Lords and Battles; Antoine's guitar and pedalboard loaded with fuzz and delay; Thomas's two synths, influenced by live performances by Meule and the Psychotic Monks, among others; to which is added, drowned in reverb, his French vocals, offering odes to their pebbles. Clear, the tracks are nevertheless filled with details, discreet references, and bursts of technicality. Enough to federate around them, in the noblest use of the term.

For their 15th anniversary, Vox Project & Voice Of The Unheard records have teamed up once again to revive a record almost as old as they are. A debut album that had never been pressed on vinyl: All Glory To John Baltor, Totorro's first album, released in 2011 (following a first EP in 2008), well before the more joyful pop shift that would bring the band success in 2014 with Home Alone.

We're talking about a time when the quartet's post-rock was viscerally aggressive, intensely splashed with post-hardcore. The extended tracks take their time to develop vast, liberating crescendos. The few screamed vocal lines reveal the band's connection to the Laval scene, which was also blooming (think Hourvari, As We Draw, and of course, Birds In Row). A point ardently demonstrated in the album's credits, led by Amaury Sauvé, who was just at the beginning of his producer career.

A testament to its time, the album bears no shame over the years and remains one of the finest examples of the style in France. A cathartic gem that remains entirely relevant, as its four tracks demonstrate the talent Totorro already displayed.

For the occasion, the album has been remastered by Sylvain Biguet. Valentin Fontaine reworked the original artwork by Bart Balboa (Birds In Row) to better extend across all sides of the gatefold. Pressed by Dunk Pressing in a limited edition of 500 copies, the vinyl, whose tracklist has been revised to ensure optimal audio quality, will be available in two color variations: Transparent red pulsars on bone marbled and Smoke gray with solid red splatters.

The timing is perfect to delve back into the band's early years, ahead of the release of their brand-new album on October 1st via Recreation Center.

"Nava Calma was born out of a desire for symbiosis. For connection. From the very beginning as a solo project of a young musician looking for meaning, its intent was to connect the sonic dots of its creator’s identity to form something that’s more than the sum of its parts.
Now acting as a full band the four-piece from Berlin, Germany channel their innermost connection to the world around them through weeping melodies perched on top of shoegazey pads and soundscapes which are then delivered with an explosive and manic urgency and relentless drums. Their sound nests within the realms of Post-Rock, Shoegaze, Post-Metal and the ever so ambiguous term “dreamo”, drawing from artists like Holy Fawn, Emma Ruth Rundle or Koi No Yokan-era Deftones.

Their first full length album „The Full Weight Of Everything“ shows the dynamic range the band is capable of. A gentle hum that lulls you in is paired with gravity defying blankets of sound and piercing lead lines. One second it’s loud, hectic and cathartic. Then it’s quiet, embracing and delicate.
An unexpected, daring genre-shift away from the project’s glitch/breakbeat beginnings travelling further back to the start of the members‘ musical origins. Guitar music. A change that was equally scary and freeing.
Vocalist Hannah Louve Benedum speaks about what it means to be a human surrounded by other humans. How we relate to each other. How the smallest action can have the biggest impact and begs the question how one might find a place in this world full of endless stimuli and sounds so rich they turn into white noise.
How do you bear the full weight of everything and what will it do to you when you finally feel it?
The band describes it as: „A celebration of youth, its fickleness and growing up.”
