I wrote a poem about Demeter, Persephone and changing seasons.
As a reminder, Demeter, the Greek goddess of agriculture and harvests, was deeply attached to his daughter Persephone. One day, while Persephone was picking flowers in a field, Hades, God of the Underworld, emerged from the earth and took it away to make it his queen.
Demeter's grief was immense. She gave up her homework, the land became barren and famine threatened men. The anxious Gods intervened. Zeus, king of the Gods, ordered Hades to return Persephone to his mother. But there was one condition: if Persephone had not eaten anything in the world of the dead, she could return permanently to earth. Unfortunately, Persephone had eaten some pomegranate seeds, a fruit from the Underworld.
A compromise was reached: Persephone would spend six months a year in the Underworld with Hades, and six months on earth with his mother. This is how the cycle of seasons was born.
Paisible Automne. Puisses-tu mâinspirer pour te plaire ?
Puis je profiterais des plaisirs dâHiver
*Autumn in Peace*
Demeter is so grieved when Autumn appearsâŠ
That Lady Nature, for a time, dies listless.
Her beloved offspring, Persephone, has stayed
With Hades, in Hell, for six months of the year.
A prisoner forever.
The Libra then the Scorpio will speak in your name.
To honor your presence, oh you so beautiful Autumn!
Your Princess adornments, your flamboyant landscape,
For a time, take the place of the departing Sun.
Peaceful Autumn. May you inspire me to please you?
Then I will enjoy the pleasures of Winter.
