For 3 years I pruned my hydrangeas reading all about when to cut them back and where to cut them on the stem. They stopped blooming for those 3 years. Last year, I didn't touch them at all but only put coffee grinds at the base of the plant. Now they're periwinkle blue, pink, blue and lavender. I even have 3 colors in one blooming flower.
