The Batchelder is an award dedicated to celebrating the most outstanding books originating in a country other than the United States and in a language other than English, subsequently translated into English for publication in the United States during the preceding year.

**Goodbye 2024, welcome 2025!**

What an incredible year 2024 has been!
We’ve had the honour of collaborating with publishers from around the world, resulting in some 80 of our books being published in 22 different countries. These include widespread languages like English, Chinese, or Spanish, but also Bosnian, Hebrew, Farsi, Amharic, Oromo, or Vietnamese. Thank you all for contributing to making this cultural exchange possible and sparking curiosity about others while considering what is universal. It might be a small step, but still it’s a meaningful move toward nurturing peace.
To be continued more than ever in 2025!

I am proud like the little girl on the cover of Aurore Petit’s latest title GRANDE !

Our website is updated, Autumn catalogues are available, material has been gathered and translated, meetings booked, I am (almost) ready to present the new titles of my publishers at the coming Frankfurt Book Fair, and online starting today. I’m pretty sure though I’m going to get confused and forget things, some books I still have to read are waiting under my bed, but the heart will be in it.

It’s been difficult to select the books on the front page of the website, with only six books I want to show the variety, established authors and new ones, arty books and less sophisticated ones, that I like as much. A good balance of the richness of French children publishing, but I can’t show it all.

I’ll be fully ready by the end of the book fair, once I have embraced the diversity of the catalogues, told dozen of times the same stories, and discovered new details or perspectives in each of them.

It’s not all perfect, and that’s how it should be. I’ll make sure I have fun.
