🇬🇷❤️ Nikolaos Tselementes was the most influential Greek chef and cookbook writer of the early 20th century. He modernized Greek cuisine by introducing French culinary techniques and ingredients, especially béchamel sauce, into traditional dishes.

He is best known for creating the modern versions of Greek ‘Moussaka’ and ‘Pastitsio’ that Greeks know today. His cookbook, “Οδηγός Μαγειρικής” (“Cooking Guide”), became so famous that in the word “tselementes” is still commonly used to mean a cookbook.

He was born in 1878 on the island of Sifnos, he studied in Vienna and later worked in restaurants in New York City before returning to Greece. Nikolaos Tselementes died at age 80 on March 2, 1958. May his memory be eternal.
