Human-caused climate change amplifies the impact of natural weather phenomena: lack of rain, extreme heat, droughts, floods, cyclones and forest fires are increasing and causing crop and livestock losses. Under these conditions, it is difficult for farmers to produce food, and for those who are hungry, to obtain it.

- Experts predict extreme weather events in coming times, specially in Africa, where the UN says agricultural productivity has fallen by 34% due to climate change, more than anywhere else in the world.

- Precipitation increases in Africa by 30% in humid regions and decreases by 20% in dry regions.

- In Madagascar, the provinces of the Great South are recording their worst drought since 1981 and three consecutive years of poor harvests. 95% of African farmers dependent on rainfall and without irrigation systems [World Food Programme]

- The lack of rain in Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia is the worst in 70 years. These countries have experienced four consecutive poor rainy seasons. (Almost half of the Somali population is considered food insecure)

Major decisions are expected during the upcoming COP 27 for more efficient climate actions.

Today we celebrate the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction

As our society and its environment progress, we suffer from various natural physical adversities. Today, we are much more prone to different natural disasters due to climate change and global warming: earthquakes, floods, tsunamis, droughts, forest fires, hurricanes or cyclones. When disaster strikes, every life counts, but the time to save lives is limited to seconds.

Disaster risk reduction is about saving lives, reducing economic losses and mitigating the catastrophic consequences of natural disasters. Government institutions, in collaboration with non-governmental organizations, should be able to develop local and national disaster response strategies. This day exists to create a framework for tomorrow and a strategy for the future.

Did you know that adopting a vegetarian diet has beneficial effects not only on health, but also on the environment ?

Becoming a vegetarian is not easy, especially if you have been addicted to meat for years, however a healthy diet for physical and mental balance is what everyone aspires to. This diet allows above all to be in better health : ⬇️⬇️

#1- Eating too much meat increases the risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer. According to several studies, the consumption of red meat increases the risk of colon cancer by 24%, and that of the esophagus, liver, pancreas or lung by 20 to 60%. Also reducing or stopping meat consumption also means stopping antibiotics, growth hormones and chemicals known to preserve meat, these substances which go up on our plate. The vegetarian diet is high in fibre, vitamins and minerals and low in saturated fat. So many elements to control your cholesterol and blood sugar levels.

#2- Reducing meat consumption is also a considerable asset for the preservation of the environment. This helps to curb climate change. You should know first of all that the breeding of animals for mass consumption creates a lot of greenhouse gases, which is the first cause of global warming. It is therefore 30% of the earth's surface that is used by the livestock industry, responsible for widespread deforestation. the widespread destruction of the natural and vital habitat of millions of animals. The benefits of this healthy diet are part of the approach of the Sustainable Development Goals for 2030 : Good health and well-being on a global scale, and the fight against climate change, promoted by the United Nations .
