🌟 **Building Brighter Connections – One Brick at a Time** 🌟
Over the summer, I have had the privilege of volunteering with Family Learning Aberdeen, bringing to their outdoor community events. As an accredited Advanced Facilitator of the -by-Brick® programme (developed by Play Included), my aim was to share how structured LEGO play can support connection, , and resilience in children.
From the 30 Brick Challenge to “Build What You Love About the Park” and Tuesday's out of this world "Amazing Aliens", children were invited to create freely — with no pressure, just encouragement!
Through simple, joyful play, parents and I were able to see the children practise different skills. Parents saw how Brick Club with Emma can:
🧱 Encourage teamwork and problem-solving
🧱 Support emotional regulation in a playful way
🧱 Offer parents insights into their child’s communication and thinking
🧱 Showcase how Brick Club with Emma can go on to benefit whole families
What stood out most was how these sessions brought people together — children and caregivers — through meaningful, low-anxiety interaction. Parents told me how much they enjoyed watching their children immersed in creative tasks and working together.
LEGO-based therapy through Brick Club nurtures empathy, self-esteem, and supports building stronger relationships within our friendships, families and communities.
If you’re curious about the Brick-by-Brick approach to supporting children and young people in their lives leave me a comment!
