Hello

So I guess it's been a while since I posted on here. But I just wanted to touch base with a general update.

Last year I took time off from podcasting as I was focusing more on my daughter Izzy finishing nursery and starting primary school, DIY overhauling at home, and my work as the founder of We Are Here Scotland
and a few other things on Big Up The Deen front as well.

Life can at times throw you some unexpected curve balls out with your control, and the world can often feel like a very unpleasant place. However I'm lucky to have my amazing family, colleagues, and great friends in my life that keep me motivated and inspired. Next month will mark 3 years that I left my career in Social Work.

I'm glad that I made this decision back in 2023. It's allowed me to still have an advocacy role in everything I've been doing under the We Are Here Scotland umbrella supporting Black and Global Majority artists and creatives across Scotland, which is something that I'm very passionate about especially as the organisation will be 5 years old this September
🎉👏🏿

I'll be back at some point this year with new conversations I promise, as long as I'm not taking on numerous projects 😅

Who knew that starting a podcast in 2017 would lead to so many conversations, new friendships and opportunities. Never give up on your dreams, take the time to celebrate who you are and what you're capable of and are achieving, allow yourself to break away from the notion that if your not always posting on social media then you're efforts in anything you're doing isn't relevant ✌🏿☮️ ❤️

In a first for the podcast there have been no new episodes for 2024.

This has truly been a year of reflections and my time preoccupied with We Are Here Scotland and Big Up The Deen but it's also been good to take a wee break over the Christmas period to recognise what's really important to me. For 2025. I'll be focusing on my family and professional development. The years of work amplifying others via the podcast and We Are Here Scotland has been special.

But I think it's also important to think about what I want to do out with these projects. Regardless of what 2025 brings I know that I can say that I've absolutely achieved and accomplished more than I ever expected I would ever do. And I don't have to prove anything to anyone or second guess myself anymore, or be disrespected by ANYONE in any capacity.

I'll be here in 2025 working on myself and everything else I do. But consciously holding space for myself and prioritising what's important to me.

Wishing you all the best for the New Year and thank you all for the years of support and generosity ❤️☺️🙏🏿

🗣️ Hello so it's been a year of no podcasts 😅 as I've been busy on my We Are Here Scotland duties, DIY projects at home, my daughter starting school in August 🥹 a minor operation that didn't go as planned, and just being disorganised in general.

But thought I'd keep with the tradition of some sorts and collate the collection of Christmas Playlists that I started in 2021 into one huge playlist. An eclectic mix of funk, soul, blues, reggae, and alternative Christmas songs for you all to listen to whatever you're doing this time of year.

Hopefully I can get in the studio space to record an end of year reflection episode as it's been an eventful 2024 so far ❤️🎅🏿🎄

We finish off this year with a brand new episode featuring trained Potterer Jo Morgan aka Joseph Morgan Ceramics

During our conversation I spoke with Jo about his journey from his initial interest in illustration to his exploration into ceramics and pottery, his experiences being an independent business owner and creative, and some good words of wisdom in between.

I had a great time catching up with Jo. It's what the podcast is all about, just nice conversations with like minded people who are doing great things in the North East of Scotland. A big thanks to Jo for taking the time out to share his story with us and for being the last guest of 2023. Be sure to check out his work via the links in the full episode description, and be sure give him a follow on Instagram or Facebook. Whatever you're doing at this time of year that you have a great time and all the best for 2024 🎄🎉🥳

Lots of challenges and difficult situations are happening in the world at the moment.

Sometimes you can easily feel guilty for getting on with your life and having the privilege of being with your family and loved ones. When I was growing up my mum always made a big deal about Christmas for me, and my siblings.

It was that time of year where she'd put on a massive spread, the house was filled with uncles, aunts, cousins and of course good Jamaican food 👌🏿😋

My mum loves some good music, and I remember many times her having some tunes on when she was cooking in the kitchen.

All good memories that I absolutely appreciate this more so the older I get and since I became a parent. So here's another playlist this year of various random Christmas related and unrelated songs from old school to modern.

If you're out for a walk, chilling, or having a duvet day I hope you find something you like when you listen to the playlist and have it on repeat. Just something to keep you going whatever you're doing this month. 🙏🏿❤️🎄

NEW

In 2022 We Are Here Scotland
curated the first-ever Rise Up! Festival as commissioned by Aberdeen Performing Arts Hosted across multiple venues in Aberdeen, it was a weekend of performances, talks, workshops and community spaces celebrating Black and People of Colour Creatives from the North East and across Scotland.

As part of the festival, We Are Here Scotland programmed and took part in a host of panels exploring different subjects. Those panels were recorded and in the lead-up to this year’s festival, we wanted to look back at those conversations, listen to them in a bit more detail and explore them one year on. How have things changed since those conversations? Have they even changed? And what do we still need to change?

This is the Rise Up Reflections Podcast

In this first episode, Ica Headlam talks to Briana Pegado about 'Taking the Initiative'

Aberdeen gets a bad rap - no doubt about it. But looking between the cracks can uncover the gems💎

Documenting what makes North-east Scotland so special on Dishin' It is a pleasure and this week I'm joined by fellow Aberdeen plugger Ica Headlam of the Creative-Me-Podcast 🎙️
