While I never had the honour to chat with Mark when he was alive, I'd still like to tribute a post to him.
When I was around 14 or 15, I first heard Impetigo and they definitely peaked my interest. Shortly after I sat and listened to both albums and whoaaa.... they blew my mind away; Horror of the Zombies is my preferred album by Impetigo, they changed sound a little bit featuring more long songs, more groovy and that experimental track "Cannibale Ballet" which is a pretty unique track.
Impetigo got me through high school, I still remember listening to "All We Need Is Cheez" on the school bus as 8 in the morning or listening to Horror of the Zombies during science class (ahem.. one most appropriate classes to do so.)
It's amazing how ahead of the time they were and how original they were, while they're labelled as goregrind and I don't think anyone can argue with that, they were one of the more interesting bands in that genre; Rather than coping Carcass like most bands they still had their own sound and took more influence from other bands such as Blood or Pungent Stench while still formulating their own sound into this melting pot of giblets, entrails and offal.
Impetigo will always be one of my favourite bands ever and there's no changing that, it's amazing how one band from a town in illinois can touch the lives of so many people around the world past, present & future.
If there was ever a time to listen to Impetigo it's now folks!
R.I.P. Marcus Carcass, you'll be gravely missed. (1967-2026)
