I'm not sure where this poem is from, but the allegory of a bleeding moon is interesting. In the song "Sinnerman" written by Les Baxter and Robert Holt, (in one of the versions), the moon bleeds. The rock was melting, the sea was boiling, the moon was bleeding, and the devil was awaiting. That song is a whole other symbolic rabbit hole, but the moon bleeds, because repressed emotion has a tendency to leak, and also, warp.
That song is also relevant for this story, which is largely about depression, trauma and guilt, and how unprocessed guilt can turn violent.
This is a different sort of film from Chaos Box, although I think the theme of combat related post traumatic stress, is perceptible in some of the other films.
Douglas said this was one of the more difficult films to make. Its one thing for a personal theme to, ahem, bleed onto the screen, but its another to address it directly.
Chaos Box is a goldmine of information for anyone interested in Celtic folklore and mysticism. I would not have known about the fae being known as the Lye Erg, without these films.
Gordon Bathegate is amazing in this film managing to be both funny and a little scary. "Right, he's throughly creeped out. Mission accomplished!"
