One topic I regularly see being discussed in the off-grid world is: “How much land do you actually need to be self-sufficient?” 🌱
A lot of people assume you need dozens of acres, livestock roaming across fields, and a huge pantry fully stocked with supplies before you can even consider being self-sufficient. But honestly? That doesn't have to be the case. 🐮
I recently wrote an article looking at how one acre can actually be enough for off-grid living and self-sufficiency, the reality really depends on what kind of lifestyle you want to create. 🏡
For some people, one acre could support a really productive setup with a good veggie garden, fruit trees, chickens, rainwater harvesting and solar. For others, especially if you want larger livestock or complete food independence, it might feel very limiting. 🥕
I think one of the biggest misconceptions around self-sufficiency is that it has to be 'all or nothing'. In reality, even growing some of your own food or reducing your reliance on supermarkets is a step in the right direction. 🌿
And let’s be honest, managing a smaller piece of land is often far more realistic (and affordable!) than trying to maintain a huge homestead straight away. 😅
❓ If you’ve ever wondered how much land you really need, the full article is in the Homes Off Grid reading room:

I’d love to know your thoughts too. What would your ideal amount of land be if you were aiming for a more self-sufficient lifestyle? 🌾
