Most submissions we receive are well-written, carefully researched, lovingly rendered, and addressed, without the author quite realising it, to the wrong reader for us. This is the most common reason M2M rejects a manuscript. Not craft, not form, not subject matter. But the imagined reader.
Before writing a word, think hard about who that reader is. If your manuscript addresses a reader from a community marginalised in UK publishing, we want to read it.

☀️I went to the Hay Festival last weekend for a welcome payday. Came back with a question I've been asking myself since.

After the panel discussion I walked the site. Did the maths. The crowd, once you subtract the staff and the artists, was so uniformly white that I genuinely expect the 2026 Reform Party conference will be more ethnically diverse.
