This week we’re shining a spotlight on two of our incredible Taylor & Francis reading volunteers.

Since 2020, we’ve been partnering with Chapter One UK to deliver online one-to-one reading support sessions for primary school children.

We’re delighted to share that Rimi Hussain was shortlisted for the Outstanding Volunteer Award 2024-25 (supporting more than one child) in Chapter One’s annual awards, and Gemma Parsons won in the Outstanding Volunteer Award (reading with one child) category. Please join us in congratulating them both!

Gemma and Rimi are pictured here at the ceremony in London last month.

According to Deloitte, "two of three surveyed organizations said they are increasing their investments in Generative AI," yet "nearly 70% of respondents said their organization has moved 30% or fewer of their Generative AI experiments into production." Another study says that, while "76% of researchers report using some form of AI tool in their research at present," just 27% have a "good understanding" of AI tools.

There's a lack of comprehension, and in some cases, anxiety occurring, even as we're steadily absorbing AI into our daily lives. However, in this confusion there is a strong sense of optimism. In a survey of nearly 3,000 researchers and clinicians, 95% said they believe AI will "accelerate knowledge discovery." At Taylor & Francis, we believe this too.

Our role as a publisher is to help authors’ ideas make their fullest contribution to society. AI has the potential to transform publishing by enhancing the quality, efficiency, and accessibility of scholarly content. We are at the forefront of that transformation, and are partnering with AI developers to shape the direction of travel. Our ultimate goal is to successfully navigate these new technologies while mitigating their risks, in order to empower researchers to leverage this powerful technology.

This month we’re shining a spotlight on women experts in AI who have published with us. We asked them questions from what AI-related projects they have worked on to what inspired them to pursue a career in their field.

Anita Faul, who published “A Concise Introduction to Machine Learning” with us, explains that her work with AI has inspired her to become an educator. She explains: “AI systems have grown too complex to enable insight. It is paramount to be critical about the answers by AI, especially in the sphere of human and social rights and equity. A good place to teach critical thinking is with the next generation.”

We’re excited to bring you some new interviews that shine a spotlight on women experts in AI who have chosen to publish their amazing books with us. We sat down with them to ask them questions such as what AI-related projects they are working on, and what inspired them to pursue a career in their field.

Dr. Janna Hastings, who published “AI for Scientific Discovery” with us, explains that she has known she has wanted to work with AI since her University days. She applies her knowledge as the Assistant Professor of Medical Knowledge and Decision Support at the School of Medicine at the University of St. Gallen and the Institute for Implementation Science in Health Care in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Zurich, and in projects such as the “Human Behaviour-Change Project.”

In 2024, Mexican researchers published 88% more research outputs than in 2014, outpacing growth in the U.S. (21%), the U.K. (27%), and globally (70%).

In addition, Mexico is a leader in OA research. Our recent agreement with Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), which produces around a third of all Mexican research, will further boost the global reach and impact of research from Mexico.

To mark the agreement, we're looking at eight OA articles and book chapters featuring Mexican researchers and institutions that have influenced the policies of global organizations and agencies. Take a read: https://tinyurl.com/OAMexico

We are pleased to announce that this year The Fibonacci Association has chosen Taylor & Francis as their new publishing partner for their journal The Fibonacci Quarterly.

The Fibonacci Quarterly, the journal of the Fibonacci Association, provides a focus for worldwide interest in the Fibonacci numbers and related mathematics. It is the only journal focused on the Fibonacci Sequence, which is a famous mathematical pattern that often occurs in nature.

The Fibonacci Association invites you to their International Fibonacci Conference, to be held in Istanbul, July 13-17, 2026. Learn more: https://tinyurl.com/FibonacciAssociation
