This year, our chosen charity is Love Barrow Families, and we’re so excited to support the wonderful work they do in our local community.

🚧🚦 32 ROADWORKS AND RESTRICTIONS AROUND BARROW TODAY – INCLUDING 17 ROAD CLOSURES

Heading out this morning? There are a significant number of roadworks taking place across Barrow today, Tuesday 15th September, ranging from full road closures and gas works to temporary traffic lights and electricity works.

Here’s our round-up of the main works currently scheduled 👇

⛔ ROAD CLOSURES:

🔴 Hindpool Road – road closure currently scheduled to remain in place until Tuesday 22nd September.

🔴 Walney Road – road closure currently scheduled until Tuesday 22nd September.

🔴 Cows Tarn Lane – closed until Wednesday 16th September.

🔴 Rear of Ramsden Street – the section between 52 Church Street and 49 School Street is closed until Friday 18th September.

🔴 Back Brown Street / Church Street – the rear lane serving numbers 38–52 is closed until Friday 18th September.

🔴 Back Roose Road – the rear lane serving numbers 32–90 is closed until Friday 18th September.

🔴 Rear of Whitehead Street – closure scheduled until Wednesday 16th September.

🔴 Longlands Avenue – closure scheduled until Wednesday 16th September.

🔴 Hartington Street – closure scheduled until Thursday 17th September.

🔴 Bath Street – closure scheduled until Thursday 17th September.

🔴 Stafford Street – closure scheduled until Thursday 17th September.

🔴 Yarlside Road – a longer-running closure associated with Cadent gas works, currently scheduled to remain in place until Sunday 4th October.

🔴 Middlefield – a new closure comes into effect today, Tuesday 15th September, and is currently scheduled until Thursday 17th September.

🔴 Ainslie Street - ongoing.

🔴 Park Drive - closed for cycle lane installation.

🔴 Cheltenham Street - currently scheduled to remain closed until Monday 28th September, with the works being carried out by Westmorland and Furness Council.

🔴 Stone D**e Lane – closed from Leece Lane for Cadent Gas utility works, currently scheduled until Thursday 1st October.

🚦 TEMPORARY TRAFFIC LIGHTS:

🟠 Abbey Road / Dalkeith Street – multi-way temporary traffic lights associated with council works, currently scheduled until Thursday 17th September.

🟠 Mill Brow / Abbey Road – multi-way temporary traffic lights are in operation for Electricity North West works. Currently scheduled until Wednesday 16th September.

🟠 Dalton Lane – multi-way temporary traffic lights are in place, with works currently scheduled to continue until Friday 23rd October.

🟠 Roose Road at Yarlside Road – two-way temporary traffic lights associated with Cadent gas works, currently scheduled until Thursday 24th September.

🟠 Sandscale Park – two-way temporary traffic lights are scheduled to remain in place until the end of today, Tuesday 15th September.

🟠 Rampside – multi-way temporary traffic lights associated with Fibrus works, currently scheduled until Wednesday 16th September.

🟠 Schneider Road – multi-way temporary traffic lights for Cadent gas works, with works currently scheduled to continue until Sunday 11th October.

🚧 OTHER ROADWORKS & TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT:

🟡 Ironworks Road – a lane closure is scheduled to remain in place until Wednesday 16th September.

🟡 Ravenglass Road – BT telecommunications works are taking place and are currently scheduled to finish today, Tuesday 15th September.

🟡 Newton Brow – roadworks are currently scheduled to continue until Thursday 17th September.

🟡 Cecil Street – electricity works are taking place, with traffic being managed around the work site. The works are currently scheduled until Sunday 20th September.

🟡 Suffolk Street – electricity network works are currently scheduled until Sunday 20th September.

🟡 James Street – Cadent works are taking place, with traffic management in operation until Thursday 17th September.

🟡 Redoak Avenue – electricity works are currently scheduled to continue until Monday 21st September.

🟡 Montague Street – electricity works begin today, Tuesday 15th September, and are currently scheduled to continue until Sunday 27th September.

🚶 LEECE LANE / ROWAN DRIVE:

There are also works affecting the footpath between Leece Lane and Rowan Drive, with a temporary pedestrian restriction in place and pedestrians directed along a signed alternative route.

⚠️ EXPECT DELAYS

With 28 different works and restrictions listed across the area, motorists may want to leave a little extra time for their journeys.

Particular care may be needed around Hindpool Road, Abbey Road, Dalton Lane, Roose Road and Yarlside Road, as well as residential streets where closures are in place.

🚗 TRAVELLING OUT OF BARROW?

A major programme of A590 resurfacing works is also underway between the Gilpin Bridge/Stakes Moss and Meathop areas.

The scheme is expected to continue until Friday 30th October, with overnight working on the single-carriageway section generally taking place between 9pm and 6am, alongside traffic management on the dual-carriageway section.

ℹ️ Roadworks can be changed, extended, postponed or removed at short notice, so always follow the signs and traffic management in place.

🎈18 years of Abbey Mill.🎈

This month our little coffee shop turns 18 years old.

Back in 2008, Abbey Mill began with an empty old cottage, a lot of ideas and absolutely no way of knowing what the next 18 years would bring.

We started simply with outside catering -then came the tea, coffee and homemade cakes — and little by little Abbey Mill grew into the coffee shop you know today.

Since then there have been thousands and thousands of coffees, an unbelievable number of scones, countless slices of cake, busy summer days, quiet winter ones, afternoon teas, ice creams, celebrations, weddings, baby showers, muddy walkers, cyclists, runners, families, tourists, four-legged visitors and generations of customers coming through our doors.

We’ve watched children who visited with their parents grow up and come back with families of their own. We have staff who visited Abbey mill as children when we first opened and now work here. We’ve had wonderful people join Team Abbey Mill, and we’ve made friendships that would never have happened without this little coffee shop.

There have certainly been challenging times too. Running a tiny independent business for 18 years isn’t always easy, and Abbey Mill has changed and adapted many times along the way.

But somehow, 18 years later, we’re still here. ❤️

Still making the coffee.
Still baking the scones.
Still opening the doors in the morning.
And still incredibly grateful when you choose to spend a little part of your day with us.

Abbey Mill has never just been about coffee and cake. It’s the people who have walked through our doors over the last 18 years who have made it what it is.

So this week we’d simply like to say thank you.

To our customers, past and present.
To everyone who has worked as part of Team Abbey Mill.
To everyone who recommends us, shares our posts, brings their friends, stops for a coffee or comes back year after year.

You have kept a tiny independent coffee shop going for 18 whole years.

And that’s something we’re very proud of.
