This isn't an easy post to write, and it's probably one we've been putting off for a while.

We're shutting down the label. It's not something we want to do, but something we feel we must.

Mercurial was always something we wanted to do as the four of us; Tom, Liam, Joe and Luke, and we have all reached stages of our lives where we can no longer fully commit to that. As such, if any of us are to continue with music, we need to do so in new ways.

Over the years of running the label we've had the pleasure to work with some amazingly talented people and we want to use this post to thank them.

So, a big thank you to everyone that has supported us, from buying and streaming music, to attending events and sharing posts on social media. It meant more to us that you all know and was a massive part reason that we wanted to keep the label going through tough times and changes in our lives.

A special thank you to Jess as without you Mercurial Audio would never have looked or felt like the label we envisioned. Their artwork has always been incredible and we couldn't recommend them enough as a graphic designer.

Thank you to all the artists that have worked with us. Your music has been the lifeblood of the label and it goes without saying that none of this would have been possible without you. It's a pleasure to see lots of people we have worked with having great sucess in the industry and a true testament to the art you are creating. So thank you for your music and your commitment to us over the years. We wish you all the best for the future.

Big ups as well to all of the channels and labels we've worked with over years, there's too many of you thank with this post's character limit, but you know who you are.

We have a small stock of the Mercurial tees left that we have put up on our bandcamp at a discounted price, so anyone that would like one, please feel free to head over and grab one.

You may see us in the industry as individuals or as a collective in the future, we don't really know yet. The one thing we always wanted Mercurial to be was just that, Mercurial - ever changing - so for now, not knowing is ok.

Wobblers never die.

With love,

The Merky Boys

We'll tough luck because we've got an absolute heater of an EP from Merky Veteran Qwirk!

'To The Stars' releases this Friday EXCLUSIVELY on Bandcamp...
..or at least until Saturday when it releases on all other platforms.

You best be ready for this one.

It’s warmsin’ John. The heat has arrived, and this time it’s not just a climate crisis. We’re pulling this one deep out of the lockdown tapes, from a time when the words “cost of living” meant a 4 pack and a sit in the garden. Take a stroll down the spiral with Spiff as he leads us through the warm days and dark nights of yesterday.

The label has always been the thing that’s kept us going for the last few years, but lockdown had a profound effect on our progression and growth, and we lost touch with a lot of the reasons why we started this in the first place. We think we’ve found those reasons again, so what better way to say a final f**k you to lockdown than sealing it with a Spiff.

Love and blessings,

The Merky boys

Spiff - Hierophant EP // 04/12/21

Hello world,

The past few months have been a bit of a ride. While our hearts have remained with Mercurial, all of us have been in pretty transitionary parts of our lives. Unfortunately this has meant that we’ve had to devote less time than we’d like to music, as you may have noticed by the slow decline in our output over recent months.

With that being said, and with our minds a little brighter and hopeful for the months to come, we’re so excited to bring you four absolutely stellar tracks from fellow Merky Boy himself; Spiff.

If you’re not yet aware of the artist formerly known as Spiffy B, or if you already are well versed in such lore, this is Spiff as you’ve never seen him before. Showing the true range and versatility of his production, Hierophant opens with its title track, an uplifting and infectious 140 breaks wonderland that blossoms like a warm summers day and drops into a euphoric dance floor.

It just wouldn’t be Spiff without some absolute violence, however, amply provided by track two; Seraph. Again offering plenty in the way of uplifting power and energy, the first drop gives way to rolling 4 to the floor drums and syncopated pads that feel both relaxing and energetic — we know that doesn’t make sense you’ll just have to take our word for it.

The B side takes a distinctly darker turn as we leave the light of day and enter the world below. Stalactite, the first track fills the mind with images of cavernous spaces masking dark corners, and of far off voices calling in the void. Its brother; Stalagmite is the release of all that tension, as the ground starts to shudder and crack beneath you, drums in the deep awaken you to the peril at hand. The thundering of the breakbeats is like some great monster rising from the earth.

This EP is a f**king journey, we can’t stress that enough. It’s been a long time coming but we are absolute stoked for Spiff that it’s finally here and it makes finally getting to share it with you all even sweeter. We hope this is the start of a renewed and refreshed Mercurial, and we truly believe it is, but for now we’re just glad to be doing what we set out 4 years ago in a back garden to do.

Be patient with us, be patient with yourselves, it’s been a ride, and it ain’t over yet.

Not by a long shot.

With love, as always,

Your friendly neighbourhood Merky Boys
