Compilations of the day :

Outro Tempo / Outro Tempo 2 : Electronic and Contemporary Music from Brazil 1978-1992 /1984-1996 (Music from Memory. 2017/2019)

Filled to bursting with much of what makes Brazilian music so wonderful for me; the most unlikely invention, the most audacious cross stitching of reference points and a confidence in ex*****on and production utterly unique and immediately thrilling.

These two mind bending albums were missed by me completely when they first dropped as was the exquisite work of Music From Memory, but during the first Covid lockdown I went pretty hard on Brazilian music and these sets came up as total bangers pretty fast once I really started digging into things. Due to all that time I suddenly had on my hands with not much else to do other than walk, read, listen to music and wait for the postman to arrive got nostril deep in the cool pool of mood contained on each compilation.

Stunners both and perfect for this woozy, relentlessly colourful summer we’re all in right now.
