The FUD

The FUD The FUD magazine, started in Bath, England during 2012.

Championing UK alternative music | Independent bands | Indie labels | Grassroots venues | Showcasing home grown talent from the South West of England | Based in Bath, Somerset. Created by Shanna Blaise McNeilage whilst at college to try and encourage people to embrace and write about whatever they were passionate about. The FUD became known for its showcasing of amateur photography, opinion pieces

inspired by current events and reviews. Now in 2025 The FUD (For Ultimate Diversity) whilst still embracing the core idea of encouraging people to write about their passions whatever they may be, focuses on topical based opinion pieces, music related content and the odd review and interview.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: WE'RE EVERYWHERE NOW!

This is your official notification that The FUD Magazine has successfully spread itself across the internet.
What started as a blog somehow grew arms and legs. Now you'll find us scattered across various corners of the internet, talking about music, championing artists and occasionally getting distracted by something we think deserves your attention.

If you're only following us in one place, chances are you're missing something.

Before anyone starts to moan:
No, we're not taking over the internet... yet.
No, we've not become full-time content creators.
No, there isn't a team of highly trained social media experts behind the scenes... but that's pretty obvious!

We're just passionate about great music, great artists, and creating more ways to connect with the grassroots music community we love. The grassroots music scene has always been built on people supporting people. The more we champion artists, venues and independent music together, the stronger the scene becomes. And that's something worth shouting about.

So if you'd like to keep up with everything we're up to, what we're listening to, and hear more about Shanna's one true love... cheese, you'll find all of our socials via the Linktree: https://linktr.ee/The.FUD.Magazine

TODAY'S THE DAY!

After weeks of waiting, excessive excitement and at least three unnecessary conversations about Matt's hat, Thrash And Burn is finally here.

Tonight, Fury, Nomad Lizard and Creeping Line Ahead take over The Tunnels, and honestly, we're expecting absolute carnage.

We'll be there representing FUD x Thrash And Burn: From The Pit, armed with notebooks, pens and an attempt at professionalism.

If you've already got a ticket, we'll see you in the pit.

If you haven't got a ticket yet, there's still time to correct that particular life choice.

So grab your blackest outfit, apply a medically questionable amount of eyeliner, warm up those neck muscles and prepare for a night of riffs, chaos and questionable decision-making.

Oh, and if anyone sees Matt's hat in Shanna's possession... no, you didn't.

See you very soon.

Do you hear that?

That’s the sound of the best night of the month rapidly approaching...
Tomorrow, Thrash And Burn returns, and this month's lineup is an absolute belter. Fury are heading down, Nomad Lizard are rolling in, and Creeping Line Ahead are serving up some of the finest homegrown noise around.

We'll be there covering the carnage for FUD x Thrash And Burn: From The Pit, so if you can't make it, don't panic—we'll paint the picture for you afterwards.

But if you are free, what's stopping you?

Grab a ticket. Smear on the eyeliner. Stretch those neck muscles. And get ready to help Shanna steal... we mean borrow Matt's hat while Fury, Nomad Lizard and Creeping Line Ahead provide the soundtrack to the chaos.
See you in the pit.

Iron Garden don’t just release music—they open up a world of grief, trauma and reflection and invite you straight inside it.

We’ve spent time with their debut album, and it’s one of the most emotionally exposed records we’ve heard in a long time. Dark, honest, and unafraid to sit with uncomfortable truths, it’s a release that lingers long after it ends.

Well, technology decided to play a blinder today and completely ignored our plans to post this earlier. So just pretend it's lunchtime and you're seeing this exactly when we intended...

TOMORROW we'll be sharing our thoughts on the latest release from Iron Garden. We've had the debut on repeat, put every track through its paces, and we're ready to dig into what makes it tick.

Keep an eye out for the full review.

Fresh paint, same questionable life choices.

We’ve had a makeover!
After recently celebrating our first birthday since relaunching as a music-focused blog, we decided it was time for our logo to actually represent who we are. The old one was cute and all, but it wasn’t very FUD.
So, we went back to the drawing board (literally) and created something that feels much more us.

We’ve gone for a rounded design with bright blues, pinks, and almost-neon elements inspired by those glowing signs you spot in bars after one cider too many.
The guitar represents our love of guitar-heavy music. The cider and cheese? Well, partly because we’re big fans ourselves, but also because they represent our Somerset roots and the local scene we’re proud to champion. And the magazine in the background is a little nod to our past life as a general-interest magazine before we fully embraced the music world.

Is it perfect? Absolutely not.
It’s a little rough around the edges, but we created it completely ourselves with zero design experience and no professional help. If anything, we think the imperfections add a bit of DIY charm — which feels pretty fitting when The FUD Magazine is essentially powered by one slightly sleep-deprived human doing everything herself.

But that's not all. We've also given the website a proper overhaul.
It's cleaner, easier to navigate, less cluttered, and generally much nicer to look at. We've simplified the colours, made the categories easier to browse, and given the whole thing a much-needed refresh.
So go have a nose around, check out the new look, and let us know what you think.
Be gentle. We're nervous.

Big riffs, huge hooks and exciting new directions are the order of the day as we take a look at the latest releases from The Calibre and Neversound. From the road-trip-ready swagger of *Never Looking Back* to the powerful, immersive sound of *Into The Water*, both bands prove that the South West's grassroots scene continues to produce exciting talent.

TOMORROW: DOUBLE SINGLE REVIEW!

Tomorrow, we're briefly setting aside our ongoing feud with the weather to shine a spotlight on not one, but two cracking singles.

First up: Bristol's The Calibre make their debut with a slice of swaggering rock that's got plenty of attitude and hits all the right spots.

Then we're checking out the latest release from our March BITESIZED stars, NeverSound. Their new track marks the start of an exciting new chapter — a rich melting pot of influences that takes listeners on quite the journey.

Two singles. Two very different flavours. One review you won't want to miss. Come back tomorrow.
