Feast of St. Padre Pio of Pietrelcina

St. Pio of Pietrelcina, known as Padre Pio, was born Francesco Forgione on May 25, 1887, in Pietrelcina, Italy. At 15, he joined the Capuchin Franciscans and was ordained a priest in 1910.

Padre Pio became famous for his stigmata, the wounds of Christ, which he bore for fifty years. His Masses, confessions, and spiritual counsel drew thousands, and his humility and prayer touched countless souls.

During World War II, Padre Pio was regarded as a protector of his region. Allied pilots reported that while attempting to bomb San Giovanni Rotondo, they saw a mysterious figure of a friar in the sky who prevented them from dropping bombs. The town remained unharmed, and many attributed this miraculous intervention to Padre Pio’s prayers.

Among the numerous miracles attributed to him was the healing of a little girl named Gemma di Giorgi, who was born blind without pupils. After meeting Padre Pio and receiving his blessing, Gemma gained her sight, something that still puzzles medical science, as her eyes remained without pupils yet functioned normally.

Padre Pio also founded the “House for the Relief of Suffering”, a hospital providing both medical treatment and spiritual comfort. Despite many trials and investigations, he remained obedient to the Church.

He died on September 23, 1968, and was canonised by Pope John Paul II in 2002. Today, he is venerated worldwide as a saint of prayer, healing, and intercession, remembered for his words: “Pray, hope, and don’t worry.”

MERCY TUESDAY
(Psalm 91:9-11)

If you have made the Lord your refuge, the Most High your stronghold, no harm will come upon you,
no disaster will draw near your tent. For he will command his angels to guard you in all your ways.

Prayer for Mercy:
Merciful Father, You’re my refuge, my shelter and my strong tower. Cover me and my household under the shadow of Your wings. Let no harm befall us and no disaster come near our dwelling.
Command Your holy angels to guard us in all our ways, that we may walk safely in Your presence.
We pray for Your divine coverage over our going out and our coming in, over our minds, our health, our work, and our families. Clothe us with Your mercy and shield us with Your love. Amen.

Jesus, I trust in you !

Are you mourning a loved one and struggling to come to terms with the loss? Here’s a prayer you can say:

Prayer of a Mourner in the Eucharistic Presence

Eucharistic Jesus, my heart is broken and my soul feels empty.
I sit before You carrying the weight of my loss, struggling to understand and to breathe through the pain.

You know the tears I cannot speak
and the silence that aches within me.
Hold me in Your mercy, Lord.
Wrap me in Your love when I feel alone.

Give rest to the one I mourn (mention the name), and give me the strength to walk forward, even with this heavy heart.

Let Your Body and Blood be my comfort,
my healing, and my hope until we meet again where every tear will be wiped away.

Stay close to me, Jesus,
for without You, I cannot stand. Amen.

Jesus meek and humble of heart, make my heart like yours.
Mary, Comfort of the afflicted, pray for me.
