Another busy month as High Sheriff of Belfast.

Alongside my normal council duties, it was a privilege to attend a number of important engagements across the city.

These included meeting HRH The Princess Royal at the official opening of the Belfast Sense Hub, attending the East Belfast Battle of Messines Memorial Parade and Service as Guest of Honour, and joining the deputy First Minister at St Anne’s Cathedral for the annual Royal British Legion Battle of the Somme Commemoration Service.

I also enjoyed attending the Men’s Walking Football Tournament at Midgley Park and presenting end-of-year trophies and prizes to Berlin Swifts FC and Springfield Star FC.

It remains a tremendous honour to serve the people of Belfast as High Sheriff.

It was a real pleasure to join the celebrations marking 50 wonderful years of Hope Nursery School.

Formerly known as Malvern Nursery, the school has served generations of children and families throughout the Lower Shankill community.

My own children attended the nursery, so it was a particularly special occasion for me. It was also wonderful to be joined by Lady Mary Peters, who presented a commemorative plaque to the Chair of the Board of Governors, Mrs E. Sedgwick, to mark this fantastic milestone.

Congratulations to the principal, staff, governors and everyone—past and present—who has contributed to the nursery’s proud history.

Here’s to many more years of helping our children flourish. 🌈👏

Great to see so many children from our community taking part in the football camp at Springfield Star FC’s 3G pitch at Black Mountain.

A massive thank you to Terry McCallum and everyone who helped make this fantastic opportunity possible, including Belfast European City of Sport 2026. ⚽️👏

Just over a year ago, I sat down with a group of people from our community who shared their vision for developing a piece of land in Highfield into a Men’s Shed and community growing space.

Now, that vision is just a few weeks away from becoming a reality. The site will include seating and communal areas, high-raised planters, a polytunnel and much more for the local community to enjoy.

It has been an amazing journey, with plenty of ups and downs along the way, but it has been a real pleasure supporting the group and helping to deliver this fantastic project for Highfield.

I can’t wait to see it completed and being enjoyed by the community! 🌱👏
