We’ve just wrapped filming with Virgin Atlantic on Project Scarlet - an inspiring initiative championing women in aviation, empowering the next generation to take their place in every corner of the industry.

From pilots to engineers, cabin crew to ground staff, Project Scarlett is all about visibility, representation, and breaking barriers for women in aviation. We can’t wait to share more from this project soon 😎

What a fantastic evening at the Agent Achievement Awards last night! We were honoured to be there as guests of our client and event headlined sponsor to celebrate the incredible achievements of the UK’s travel agents. It was also fantastic to see our video content on the screens for not only Celestyal, but also recent projects with Virgin Atlantic, Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises 😎 I’m sure this mornings sore heads will have been worth it for the winners!

Behind the Lens: A Slightly Overdue Update 👀

It’s been a hectic few weeks at Blue Juice – so much so that last week’s update slipped through the net. I’d promised myself I’d post these weekly, but I’m not going to beat myself up about it. Sometimes the work just takes over… and that’s exactly what happened.

Here’s what we’ve been up to:

🛳️ Some of our crew jetted off to Athens for a week onboard two of Celestyal Cruises’ ships, filming updated cabin content post-refit on Celestyal Discovery.

🎥 We shot a case study video for our accountancy client, Carpenter Box. The UK weather finally played ball – grey skies gave way just in time, and the location looked stunning in the early spring light.

🎥 We wrapped up the final bits of b-roll with CareLineLive.

💪 We filmed onboarding content with the team at Fitness Marketing Agency

🎬 We spent 24 hours in Boston shooting something rather fun..🤐

✈️ Back in the UK, we had teams filming and editing content for the new Virgin Atlantic Holidays store launch at Merry Hill – and covering the release of Virgin Atlantic’s latest TV ad.

📍Right now, we’re deep in pre-production for a shoot later this month in Barcelona and Pisa – more on that soon.

Plenty going on behind the lens as always. Big thanks to the team for making it all happen!

Behind the Lens 2025 // Week 10 🎥

Well what a rollercoaster of a week that was! We started out on location in Athens, filming interviews and some final bits of b-roll for an investor video to support the major refurbishment of Celestyal Discovery. Its been incredible tracking the transformation of parts of the ship that we know so well from previous shoots as she had a huge upgrade ready for the start of the season in Europe in a couple of weeks.

Back at base, our post team’s been deep in media management mode—especially with all the recent content shot in the Middle East. It’s not the flashiest part of the process, but it’s crucial. Organising and tagging every asset, creating searchable, client-friendly dailies, and making everything available via our cloud-based media library (MAM) means we can keep projects flowing and clients happy. Chaos in the field is fine—as long as there’s order in post.

We’ve been working on the latest Liberty Spring / Summer campaign which was filmed in our studio the week before last, and also working on several multilingual projects —something we’ve got loads of experience with. Whether it’s receiving footage in different languages or delivering final content with translated captions and voiceovers, we’ve got it covered. Current projects include Greek, Spanish, French, German, and Dutch. From localised edits to global campaigns, we make sure the message lands—whatever the language.

We finished the week filming in Canary Wharf on Thursday and then the plan was to head to NYC early Friday morning…..but instead of waking up to bagels and yellow cabs, we pulled back the curtains of our Heathrow hotel at 5am to find the airport in total darkness. Not the moody cinematic kind—more the ‘power cut across the whole terminal’ kind. One of my favouite sayings, and one I say quite a lot is from Mike Tyson - “Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face’. And this is how it can be in the content prodution world - but being able to quickly adapt, think on your feet and pivot quickly os something we are very akin to. ✈️ We made it out to Boston Sunday and the show goes on! 🎬

🚢 Week 11 – Desert Days & Corporate Conversations 🌍🎥

Following on from our shoot with Celestyal on their inaugural ‘Desert Days’ sailing to the Middle East in December, this past week has taken us across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sir Bani Yas, Qatar, and Doha—capturing an incredible variety of shore experiences along the way.

From dune bashing and sandboarding in the Red Desert of Dubai to browsing the souks in Doha and dolphin watching from a dhow in Oman’s stunning Khwar Shamm fjord, this shoot was all about showcasing the rich cultural and adventure-filled experiences that Celestyal offers its guests. We also filmed a safari on Sir Bani Yas, explored Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi, and captured the energy of Yas Marina, plus much more.

This project has been in the works for a long time, and pulling it off took meticulous planning, tight logistics, and an amazing crew. When we wrapped on Sunday, we had everything in the can—a true testament to the effort behind the scenes. Heres a few behind the scenes images and frame grabs - the post production team get to work their magic when all the footage is handed over this week!

✨ Meanwhile, closer to home… the rest of the team was on a corporate shoot for one of our law firm clients, capturing a series of thought leadership pieces and fireside chats. A completely different style of project but equally rewarding—showcasing industry expertise in a polished, engaging way.

Plenty more to come from both shoots—watch this space! 👀🎬

Why Paddling 1000 miles made me a better business owner - In 2023 I raced the world’s longest unsupported survival paddle race, the Yukon 1000. Read about the lessons I learned, and how they carry across to my day-to-day work running Blue Juice in an article I’ve just posted on LinkedIN (link in bio!).

To grab your attention here is a picture of my battered hands and me suffering from sleep deprivation at 1 am, somewhere in the Arctic Circle!

2025 // Week 7

The longer version of this weeks update gathered quite a lot of traction and DM’s on LinkedIN; if we are not connected on that platform, drop me an invite and check out the post in full - but the Instagram TLDr;

Being a founder is a bit like running on a treadmill that someone else controls. You can slow down, but you can never really stop. Busyness can be a deceptive dopamine fix, and recently I’ve been putting busyness ahead of prioritizing creative thinking and strategy - I’d started to lose focus on the few things that truly matter.

I find it difficult to take pleasure in success because I’m constantly anticipating the next goal. Instead of pausing to enjoy the moment, I’m already mentally onto the next challenge.

But the truth is, if I pause and look at where we are as we enter our 16th year, it’s bloody awesome. We’re working on some fantastic projects with great clients and pitching for exciting new work - It’s everything I wanted when I started this company (and yet, it’s still happening not fast enough!)

So here’s a reminder (to myself as much as anyone else): remember to pause and enjoy the moment, now. Here’s some pics from the studio last week and my best attempt at a blue steel gaze 🤪😎😂

Behind the Lens: Week 6

Every week, we share what we’ve been up to at Blue Juice to give you a glimpse behind the scenes. These updates are a way for us to showcase the diverse range of work we produce, the sectors we operate in, and the amazing clients we collaborate with. Whether you’re an existing client curious about what’s happening in the studio, or a potential client wondering if we’re the right fit, we hope these updates give you a clearer picture of what Blue Juice is all about.

Pre-Production:
This week, we’ve been busy finalising plans for an exciting shoot in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Qatar, scheduled for early March. With March shaping up to be a hectic month, we’re also locking down several other shoots, including studio projects, a fitness marketing event at St James’ Park in Newcastle, and an international shoot in Boston. Lots to plan, and the calendar is filling up fast!

Production:
On the production front, we had a fantastic week filming for our new client, CareLineLive, in London. The project focused on a series of talking head interviews and b-roll, forming part of a Founders Project as the company expands into the Australian care market. A busy but rewarding few days!

Post-Production:
The post team have been just as busy, bringing their magic to a variety of projects. A particular highlight has been an internal comms project with a Valentine’s Day theme—we love being tasked with bringing stats and numbers to life in an engaging way - Love is definitely in the air!

Studio News:
The production team took a break from the grind to attend the BSC Expo in London. It was a brilliant opportunity to geek out over the latest gear, build our shopping lists, and get some hands-on experience with equipment we’re considering adding to our inventory. A great mix of inspiration and practical research for future projects!

If any of this resonates with your own requirements or sparks an idea, we’d love to chat!

2025 // Week 5
This week’s update is a bit of a tough one. So far, I’ve been sharing behind-the-scenes shots from productions in progress and frame grabs of freshly delivered work from our post-production team. But this week… I’m a little stuck for visuals!

Pre-Production
We’re deep into pre-production for an exciting shoot in the Middle East in a few weeks. Epic locations are lined up, but right now, it’s all paperwork, paperwork, and more paperwork. Carnets, filming permits, media management plans, metadata logging strategies… thrilling stuff, right? Not exactly the kind of content that lights up your Instagram feed. But as the saying goes, fail to plan, plan to fail—so we’re ticking every box to make sure it all runs smoothly.

Production
Next week, we’re heading into London for a shoot with a brand-new client. But there’s a familiar face on camera: Dec Norton! For those who remember our days of building 360 video apps and immersive experiences (circa 2017/18), it’ll be a nice blast from the past.

Post-Production
I call weeks like this the eye of the storm. We’ve got about 15 active projects with the post team, but nearly all of them are out with clients for feedback. Next week is shaping up to be a bit of a wild one once those notes start rolling in!

And since no one’s ever liked a post about metadata logging strategies, here are a few stills from recent projects and edits to grab your attention—including a couple of pics of our studio space here in Sussex 😎🎬

2025 // Week 4

January is officially in the bin. We made it. And, against all odds, I’ve actually stuck to my commitment of posting once a week—who knew? I’ve been experimenting also with what day to post these weekly updates (Sunday, catch people as they prepare for the week ahead, Saturday - just to see who doesnt switch off, and now Friday - as people wrap their week).

For someone who’s spent years struggling to put into words what we actually do at Blue Juice, I’ve really enjoyed stepping back each week to reflect on the bigger picture. It’s also sparked some great conversations and opportunities with both new and long-standing clients.

But if I’m brutally honest. If I keep this up without mixing things up, we’re going to hit repetitive déjà vu mode fast. Projects often span weeks or months, and there’s only so much I can (or am allowed to) share. So, as we roll into February, I’m tweaking the formula—still keeping my commitment of weekly posts, but now with a little more variety. As well as agency updates and behind the scenes shots from projects, I’ll also be looking at specific topics and industry musings from the world of content production. It’s easy to fall into the trap of “peacocking” - so I really want to make sure we talk in a way that resonates and is useful / informative / adds value with clients, not competitors.

For now, it’s been a week of pitches, proposals, post-production, and planning—heres a picture of Matt plugged into the matrix.

Onwards. 🚀

Is it seriously only week 3 of 2025?! Feels like we’re on the 54th of January already…

Pre-Production
We’ve kicked off scoping for a series of overseas projects for Q1. This means diving into the thrilling world of logistics—think kit, carnets, permits, and crew bookings (oh my!)—alongside the more exciting bits like storyboarding and creating visual treatments. Both equally important, but let’s be honest, one’s definitely more fun than the other.

Production
This week saw two full-on shoot days in Birmingham and Northampton, wrapping up a major corporate video project. A highlight? Filming at The Bond in Birmingham—an incredible creative space that even houses the set for Silent Witness. A fantastic backdrop and a great experience for the team.

Post-Production
After a hectic start to the year, the Post team finally got a chance to catch their breath. It’s been a week of tying up loose ends, tidying up project files, and getting our studio and cloud asset management platforms in order—clearing the decks for what’s coming next. Enjoy it while it lasts!
