Why Medal Register?

As a personal interest in researching our families’ military service history, it became clear that if this information isn’t protected, recorded, and stored properly, it risks being lost forever.

When families discover that a relative served in the armed forces, they naturally begin to ask questions about their service. Many then learn that their relative received medals — and the next question is always the same: what happened to them?

Some servicemen and women sold their medals because they did not wish to be reminded of their experiences. Others were lost during house moves, mistakenly thrown away, stored in old boxes, or put somewhere “safe” and forgotten. And sadly, many have been stolen.

There are countless social‑media groups offering help and advice for finding relatives’ medals. Unfortunately, posts are quickly buried due to the sheer volume of content, meaning vital information is easily lost.

Medal Register is a dedicated online database designed to store, protect, and bring these records to the forefront of internet searching — giving families a far greater chance of being reunited with their medals.

Please remember: when medals have been purchased by collectors in good faith, they are under no obligation to sell them. However, many collectors are more than willing to reunite medals with families, often simply asking to cover their original purchase cost.
