We've charged a man in connection with a fatal hit-and-run collision in Birmingham.

We yesterday detained a 41-year-old man after another man died and a woman sustained leg injuries when they were hit by a car on Soho Road on Tuesday (16 December).

Harinderpal Athwal from Oldbury has now been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop and causing death by driving while disqualified and uninsured.

He's also charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to report a road collision.

He has been remanded to appear before Birmingham Magistrates Court today.

The man, aged 54, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene, while a woman, aged 47, remains in hospital with injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.

We're continuing to appeal for anyone with information about the collision, near the junction with Whitehall Road, shortly before 11.20am.
