Meet Sarah Lewis who makes incredible birthday cakes!
She launched Cakey Blinders in 2025 after being diagnosed with FND (Functional Neurological Disorder) due to stress, and turning her diagnosis into her passion.
We're chatting to Sarah as part of our Brummie Mummies Kitchen Table Business series 🍒❤️🍎❤️🍒
"I’ve always loved baking and wanted to turn that passion into something positive for my family," said Sarah, from Solihull, whose children are 17 and 11.
"It also began as part of our home education journey, teaching real-life business skills such as budgeting, food safety, customer service, and creativity.
"Following my FND diagnosis, the business has also given me the opportunity to work at my own pace with support from my family, while still doing something I genuinely enjoy.
"I work around the children’s routines and involve them where possible. Because we home educate our son, the business has become part of our learning, helping teach practical life and business skills in a fun and hands-on way.
"Running the business from home also gives me flexibility to manage my health while balancing family life.
"I love being creative and seeing people enjoy what I make. I also love that it allows me to spend quality time with my children while teaching them valuable skills and building something together as a family.
"It’s also given me confidence and purpose after my diagnosis, while allowing me to work in a way that suits my health needs."
