A brilliant evening at Makers Place in the Jewellery Quarter for the Makers Supper Club, bringing together press, influencers and local makers

We enjoyed a guided tour that gave us the opportunity to explore the stunning spaces and apartments at Makers Place, before sitting down to a five-course tasting menu by Pete Dovaston of Maneki Ramen, paired with w**es selected by Arch 13’s Abi Connolly.

Pete and Abi are among a number of local creatives collaborating with Makers Place. Poet and storyteller Salmah Abdulsalam has created an original poem inspired by identity and belonging, while Warren Murray of Temper and Brown has curated playlists for the communal spaces.

Pete will also host regular masterclasses, Abi will lead w**e tastings and w**e club evenings, and local nail artist Rosie Lynall of Nails Bab will host pop-up sessions.

Together, these collaborations bring the creativity and community of the Jewellery Quarter into Makers Place, creating a real sense of place and belonging.

Burgundy is back! Rich, warm and surprisingly easy to live with, it can wake up a neutral room with a single cushion or lamp, anchor a space through a velvet sofa or headboard, or turn a small snug or downstairs loo into something wonderfully dramatic.

We’ve discovered Flora Fields at Webbs of Wychbold, where 60+ varieties of dahlias create a spectacular floral display and visitors can even pick their own bouquet to take home.

📀 Popular markets at Brindleyplace return this weekend, with the Brindley Records Market taking place on Saturday 29 August, followed by the Brindley Records & Makers Market on Saturday 26 September.

Expect vinyl, music memorabilia and in September, handmade products and unique finds from independent makers.

Both events run from 9am–4pm at Central Square, with free entry.

🧹 We went into Mrs. Doubtfire the Musical at Birmingham Hippodrome with a healthy dose of scepticism. We came out completely won over.

From the outrageous comedy and clever staging to Gabriel Vick’s brilliant performance as Daniel Hillard and Mrs Doubtfire, this is a production that delivers from start to finish.
