I saw a quote today that really spoke to me. It said:

“What a privilege to be tired from the work you prayed for. What a privilege to be overwhelmed by the growth you dreamed about.”

After the first six weeks in my new office, I was talking to a good friend and said to them:

“I'm so tired when I get home from the office (around midnight), but not because I am mentally drained with stress from being in a negative environment, I'm tired because I'm working my arse off renovating and decorating this office, and starting to build this business from scratch. It feels so good! I'm happy. I sleep soundly before waking up and jumping to get straight back to it!”

I’d never had this before.

4 months in, I'm still building STUDIO: ARC. The projects I have been working on are:

3 Websites (one pro bono)

1 Website SEO overhaul
1 Email system set up
1 Facebook business page set up
1 Instagram professional account set up
1 LinkedIn business page set up
1 Facebook account optimisation

3 In-depth consultations and proposals that have not yet gone ahead
Many conversations giving free business marketing advice to other business owners
1 presentation on Digital Marketing and Branding at Durham School for parents in business
3 networking events
I have met countless incredible entrepreneurs and business owners

I've been able to book medical appointments knowing I can work later.

I've worked triple the hours I would have in a full time job, for less money but oh-so much more joy.

I've spent time with family and friends. I've gone on walks, climbed trees, watched a friend get married in Cornwall, said goodbye to a military friend over in Merseyside, popped in for a catchup with the Priest who Baptised me in Sandbach. I camped in Cumbria with Woodland Xperiences, and I camped in the Cotswolds with REACT Disaster Response. I've had me-time swimming, and going to church. I've become a God Mother for the third time, I've indoor climbed weekly, gone on some dates (still single), gained an extra qualification in Digital Marketing, and am half way through another qual in Business Principles which will help me and my clients.

I've also taken rest days as I have needed.

The truth is, I wouldn’t trade this tiredness for anything. Every item on that list, every long day, every challenge, has been part of building the business I once dreamt about. And I’m only just getting started. I’m grateful for the freedom, the challenges, the people I’ve met, and the lessons I’ve learnt. The journey ahead is exciting.

If the last four months have taught me anything, it’s that building a business is as much about the life you create around it as it is about the work you do in it.

I had a great day in the office today. I was joined by Kris Murray MIFSM from to make some final edits to his website and business cards, and go over the social media plan I'm putting together for him.

Kris' background is first in the military, and then the fire service - of which he is still serving in. KRS Fire Safety Solutions is a business that he is proud to do alongside being a Firefighter. He is IFSM Level 3 qualified in Fire Risk Assessments and is covering County Durham, Northumberland, and North Yorkshire.

🚐🫂🏕

After a busy and enjoyable work week, working with and consulting some amazing entrepreneurs, my Out Of Office is now on for a rare early Friday finish.

I'm now heading South West bound to meet with my fellow REACT Disaster Response volunteers. Usually, we only get to catch up with each other on deployments or training weekends, so a social camping weekend has got us all very excited.

Catch up on Monday when I'm back in the office - but I can't promise I won't be replying to emails when I'm tucked up in my campervan bed.

I didn’t go to uni. I joined the army.

I didn’t have a roadmap. I made one.

Everything I do now - strategy, branding, marketing - came from building it piece by piece and showing up consistently.

No student loan. No “freshers.” Just discipline, resilience, and boots on the ground.

I didn’t take the expected path - but I learned fast, I showed up hard, and I figured things out in real time.

I cried a lot, I took steps backwards, I made mistakes; but I always dug deep after retrospection and kept moving forwards with faith and determination.

Fast forward: I now run a Digital Marketing Agency. I work with ambitious entrepreneurs and brands across the UK to build standout websites, rebrand their online image to showcase their USP and clarify their messaging, and help them show up with purpose whilst keeping their financial and business goals in mind.

I didn’t get here by doing what everyone else did.

I got here by:
🔸 Studying obsessively
🔸 Saying yes and then figuring it out
🔸 Doing free work until I could charge well for it
🔸 Volunteering for veteran and humanitarian organisations in between client work
🔸 Reducing my living expenses to next to nothing so I could pursue a path of my own
🔸 Living in a basic campervan for 2.5 years to forgo ever-rising housing costs
🔸 Taking on temporary jobs alongside building my portfolio so I could still eat
🔸 Building my business brick by brick - while still being human through all of it
🔸 Pursuing and securing a physical office rental without having any retainer clients lined up

There’s power in not fitting the mould.

There is power in making yourself uncomfortable and taking calculated risks.

And if you’re a founder who built something real without a roadmap (or a safety net) - I get you. I see you.

You're the reason I do this. You’re the reason I CAN do this.

After a few days out of the office 🗓 to attend a friend's funeral in the North West, I started my working week off this morning with a local networking event 🤝🏻💼🪪 in Bishop Auckland at The McIntyre Centre. There's nothing like meeting other business owners face to face, to bounce ideas off each other; and today one of the topics discussed was wellness whilst self employed.

It's so easy to work through lunch and work til late. 🫠 When you work for yourself, there is no guaranteed income if you don't show up - as each of you sole traders and business owners can fully appreciate. On the bonus side, it can be such a joy to be doing what you love, in an office or workspace that you love, so it is such a pleasure to spend so much time there. 🧘🏼‍♀️

One thing that I want to focus on now that I have moved back to the North East and taken up indefinite residence in Bishop Auckland (something that happened by chance), is to establish a community 👥️ of like-minded individuals that can support each other, cheer for each other, and vouch for each other. This has quickly started to become my norm. Everyone who I have met over the last two months have been such a ray of sunshine, and I look forward to meeting more and more people of Bishop Auckland and the surrounding areas.

I will never neglect though, my wider network and clients nationwide (and beyond). The ability for me to work with clients remotely will never be taken for granted.
