Ooni of Ife Suspends Carnival And Tarmac Activities, Bans Hard Drugs and Cultism in Ile-Ife.
The Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, has taken major steps to restore peace and order in Ile-Ife.
During an emergency meeting held on Thursday at the Ile Oodua Palace, the Ooni—through his representatives—announced a series of strict measures affecting the entire community.
Representing the Ooni were:
His Highness Idowu Adediwura, the Obalufe of Ife
High Chief Kola Adeyeye, the Lowa Adimula of Ife
Together, they made the following declarations:
Suspension of Annual Carnival and Tarmac Activities — Indefinitely
The yearly Ile-Ife Carnival and all Tarmac-related gatherings, events, or activities have been suspended indefinitely.
This follows rising concerns over insecurity and misuse of such events by miscreants.
The message is clear: peace and safety first.
Total Ban on Hard Drugs & Illicit Alcohol
The palace has outlawed:
❌ Hard drugs including Colorado
❌ Indian h**p
❌ Sachet alcohol and illicit local brews sold by the roadside
They emphasized that anyone caught selling these substances will be arrested, and shockingly, the head of their household will also face consequences.
This is to break the chain of harboring or protecting offenders within families.
Zero Tolerance for Extortion & Thuggery
The Ooni’s chiefs condemned the activities of individuals who go around construction sites and new building projects extorting money from developers.
This practice has now been officially banned.
Security agencies have been empowered to arrest anyone involved in such acts.
Cultism Strictly Prohibited
Cultism and any violent or life-endangering activities have also been banned.
The chiefs stressed that no chief, no leader, no influential person will be allowed to intervene if anyone is arrested.
Nobody is above the law in Ile-Ife.
Tarmac Closed to Thugs
The Tarmac—formerly a hotspot for unruly gatherings—has been completely shut down for such use.
Security operatives have been directed to arrest anyone caught violating this order immediately.
Parents Should Warn Their Children
Parents and guardians were strongly advised to monitor their children, warn them against crime, bad companionship, drug use, extortion, and cult-related activities.
This is a community effort, not just a palace directive.
Police and DSS Fully Back the Decision
The Area Commander of Police in Ife, ACP Sola Ogunwale, praised the palace for taking bold steps to protect the community.
He assured residents that the police will fully enforce every directive without compromise.
Also present at the meeting were:
* Divisional Police Officers (DPOs)
* Officers of the Department of State Services (DSS)
* Palace officials including Emeses, Looguns, and Ogungbe
This is a strong and decisive move from the Ooni’s palace, aimed at restoring peace, reducing crime, and protecting the cultural integrity of the ancient city of Ile-Ife.
