Jim Baker’s The Cunning man’s Handbook reads like a lantern held up in a forgotten archive. Within its pages lie the whispered workings of the cunning-folk - their charms, rites, and remedies - drawn from fragments scattered across centuries. It is at once a scholarly study and a grimoire of the everyday magician, a reminder that magic once lived in the hands of neighbours, healers, and tricksters. Few modern texts manage to be both so erudite and so alive. A true classic for those who walk between history and enchantment. 🌙

This Sunday, the full moon will ascend, pale and inexorable, carrying with it the weight of countless names once whispered in reverence. Selene, Artemis, Hecate, Diana - goddesses of the night sky who shaped ritual and imagination alike. To the ancients, the moon was never mere rock adrift in darkness, but a living force: guardian, huntress, witch-queen. Its fullness marked the hour of power, when offerings were laid, spells spoken, and fates entwined beneath its argent gaze.

To stand beneath the full moon is to enter a lineage older than memory, one in which its silver light presses us to release what binds, to claim what calls, and to move with the rhythm of cycles beyond our control.

What will you place beneath the eye of the moon this Sunday—what burden to relinquish, what desire to awaken?

At Lagina, the sacred precinct of Hekate still breathes. Here, in the heart of Caria, the torchbearer and key-keeper was honoured with processions, mysteries, and offerings that bound the city to the goddess's temple. Stone steps worn by centuries lead to a place where earth meets underworld, and every shadow whispers her name.

In Hekate: Her Sacred Fires, her roles - as guardian of the crossroads, protector of oaths, and guide through liminal spaces - come alive through myth, magic, and devotion.

Image: The gateway to the sacred temple of Hekate at Lagina. Standing here, you walk where her devotees once carried fire through the night, weaving bonds between mortal and divine.

🔥 May her torches light your path.

Step into Precious Apothecary, a meticulously translated Catholic grimoire by José Leitão (Avalonia), drawn from the 1754 Botica Preciosa of the Brazilian missionary Ângelo de Sequeira. Here, devotional practice becomes living magic - prayers, novenas to the Lady of the Rock and 120 Saints, blessings for oils, flowers, statues, and food, and even exorcisms and rituals for those moments when no priest could be found

Unveil the arcane world of Icelandic magic with Icelandic Magic: Aims, Tools and Techniques of the Icelandic Sorcerers by C.A. Smith. Based on six original manuscripts spanning from the 1500s to the mid‑1800s, this book charts the spells, staves (galdrastafir), incantations, deities, and tangible tools wielded by working sorcerers in Iceland’s rugged North Atlantic realm. Witness how humble objects -knives, bones, parchment, even sea creatures - became vessels of magical intention, and explore the motivations and methods behind practical, vernacular magic.

The Faerie Queens, edited by Sorita d’Este & David Rankine, is a fabulous anthology of eighteen essays diving deep into the myths, magic, and mythopoetic power of Faerie Queens -from the Arthurian courts to the wild woods of Scandinavia, ancient Greece to Renaissance poetry. These sovereign enchantresses emerge from liminal landscapes - forests, lakes, hills - to grant sovereignty, protection, transformation... and occasionally, a curse.

One notable piece, “Diana’s Moon Rays”, sheds light on the goddess Diana - celebrated mid-August in the Roman Nemoralia (Festival of Torches), when worshipers gathered at her sacred groves and lake with garlands, ribbons, candles, and offerings in her honour.

In the worldview of the Renaissance occult philosophers, everything—whether angelic or earthly - was shaped by two intertwined substances: the spiritual and the material.

While their studies sought communion with the Divine, their practices were often deeply rooted in material means - rituals, tools, and tangible acts that bridged heaven and earth. In Finding God in the World by Catherine Noble Beyer, explore a philosophy where matter is as vital as spirit, and the physical world becomes a living pathway to the sacred.
