.su Have advertised across The University of Bolton a debate around Abortion. These posters are accompanied by various troubling and disturbing aspects, well, these posters and this debate shouldn’t be happening at all. Let’s discuss:
Highlighted in Green: Appears to be a picture showing a foetus with a head and 1 hand accompanied with what seems to be a pool of blood. Such an explicit and insensitive image shouldn’t be placed on a poster at all, never-mind on this vulgar debate.
Highlighted in Red: Appears to be a money bag. This seems to suggest money is the most important part of a decision like this which is a incredibly incentivise and problematic view to display to students. Plus, it could convey ideas of abortion being too expensive and/or a child being too expensive to raise. Once again, distrusting ideas to put into students’ heads.
Highlighted in Blue: appears to be ABORTION written in block capitals and coloured in red. Both the text and the colour give off ideas of violence and perhaps even dread about such a sensitive idea. Once again, distgusting.
Overall, these posters are missing so many pieces of valuable information that may of made such an invite to a discussion more feasible for a University environment (abortion support number, life lounge contact, no vulgar imagery).
Regardless, this shouldn’t be advertised in a University environment.
Bolton SU needs to heavily administrate future events so this doesn’t happen again.
