If there's one thing I think I've learnt over the last couple of years of running SimplyCake, it's this...
Social media is weird. ๐คฃ
When I first started, I measured success by views, likes and followers.
If a post reached 1,000 people I genuinely thought, WOW! ๐คฉ
Fast forward a couple of years...
I've finally worked out who I am, what SimplyCake is all about and how I want that to come across online.
Ironically, my posts now regularly reach between 1,000โ3,000 people and one even reached over 15,000... and it was literally just a photo of my face introducing myself! ๐
But here's what I've been thinking lately...
Those likes and views are lovely (and yes... they still give me a little dopamine hit ๐
), but I don't actually think they're the best way to measure success.
For me, success looks more like...
๐ค Repeat customers.
๐ค Being fully booked until September.
๐ค Cake orders for February next year.
๐ค Recommendations.
๐ค Messages saying, "I've been following you for ages..."
Because the funny thing is...
Sometimes the post with loads of views brings nothing.
And sometimes the post that doesn't seem to perform very well brings your next customer.
Maybe if you're a new small business owner, don't be too disheartened if your posts aren't getting thousands of likes or views.
People are still watching. People are still remembering you. And when they're ready, they'll know exactly where to come.
Anyway... that's just something I've been thinking about recently. โค๏ธ
