Most local businesses are sitting on a goldmine they don’t even know exists.
Last week, I was helping a client tidy up their Google Business Profile when I noticed something that made me pause. Their main competitor had a bold, eye-catching update live — promoting a seasonal offer with a call-to-action button. It wasn’t a review or photo — it was a Google Post.
My client, on the other hand, had nothing new. No updates. No offers. Just the basics.
That one small difference said a lot. It showed the competitor was active, engaged, and giving people a reason to take action.
Here’s what many don’t realise:
Google Posts appear directly beneath your business info in search and Maps — giving you free, high-impact space to showcase offers, events, or updates.
Yet 70% of local businesses I audit aren’t using them at all.
It’s simple to start. Just Google your business and click “Add update” — or post via Google Maps. You can include text, images, and buttons like Call Now, Book, or Learn More. The first 100 characters display by default, so lead with something strong.
✅ Post consistently
✅ Promote offers
✅ Share updates
✅ Show you're active
The only catch? Google doesn’t allow scheduling — but with a third-party tool, that’s easily solved.
Free visibility. Better engagement. What’s stopping you?
