There’s a very specific kind of happiness that comes from having your first proper shower after you’ve been struggling for a while.
And if you know, you know.
When you’re dealing with depression, chronic illness, burnout or just trying to survive your own brain, showering can genuinely feel like climbing a mountain. People who haven’t experienced it probably think “it’s just a shower” but sometimes even the thought of getting undressed, washing your hair, drying yourself, finding clean clothes and doing everything that comes after it feels impossible.
Then one day you finally manage it.
You wash your hair. You scrub your skin. You put clean pyjamas on. Maybe you even change your bedding if you’re feeling extra ambitious 😂
And suddenly you feel like you’ve been reborn.
I swear I come out of that bathroom feeling like I’ve got my life together. Like maybe I CAN answer those emails. Maybe I CAN clean the kitchen. Maybe tomorrow won’t feel quite as heavy.
It sounds so small but when you’ve been in survival mode, these tiny things feel massive.
So if all you managed today was a shower, please don’t tell yourself you “only” had a shower.
Sometimes getting yourself clean and feeling human again is the achievement. ❤️
