A bit of a change of scale from some other recent projects! This is a 1/100 scale model of the Torre del Belvedere in Mondovì, a town in Italy. The model of the tower itself is 29.1cm (about 11. 5") tall.
The sculpture was made from reclaimed sapele wood on an oak base, with details made from hornbeam, jarrah and bubinga timbers. The model of the hot air balloon was blown at Bristol Blue Glass and supplied by the client.
This was a gift for their husband. The two of them enjoy hot air ballooning and regularly fly over the actual tower in Italy. Hopefully this is a nice memento.
It was also a nice reminder for me of the architectural models that my father, who is featured in the previous post, used to make.
By the way, the park where these photos were taken is Ashton Court in Bristol - a regular launch spot for real hot air balloons and the site of the annual Bristol Balloon Fiesta.
