Official first steps taken on Birnbeck Pier! 🎉 🤩 🙌
Our restoration of the historic Grade II* Listed Birnbeck Pier in Weston marked another important milestone today, with a quarter of the replacement deck now in place!
A small group of guests took the official first steps onto the replacement deck after the fourth of 16 replacement deck spans was lifted into place.
A 160-tonne crane was used to lift the span into position which was itself operating from the 400-tonne jack-up barge moored alongside the pier 🤯
A big thank you to our funders, contractors and officers for their continued hard work and commitment in getting us to this stage. And of course to the dedicated volunteers and all of you who are supporting this project 👏
The remaining deck spans will be installed over the coming months. Birnbeck Pier is due to reopen in summer 2027.
The pier legs are structurally sound. Any repair work needed on them is taking place as the contractor works along the pier.
