We're back with our final post in the series where we answered YOUR burning questions about the animation industry! 🧠👀
Thank you to all who reached out to us! 💗
This was one of the most important enquiries, as it can seem overwhelming when navigating the world of indie animation. Even for major animation studios, the topic of funding and financing is the priority, and often, the most daunting task when starting any production. 🥴😵💫
A lot of the funding is specific to where you're located with the UK, in addition to what you're intending on creating. If you're keen on making a short film, there's the BFI Network Short Film Fund. BFI Network also has a Feature Film Development pot that opens at certain times throughout the year, which have very specific criteria for applying.
In Wales, there's Ffilm Cymru's Beacons Short Film Fund, which was how our short film Passenger was made. Like the BFI, FfCW have different pots of funding open for features at various levels of development and production, including a Sinema Cymru scheme, which highlights Welsh-language features.
Scotland and Ireland have their own funding pots too: Screen Scotland and Northern Ireland Screen Fund.
Series have opportunities like the BBC Ignite Scheme, which typically calls for entries once a year. It's how we got Duck & Frog into production!
Our biggest advice is to keep your eyes peeled online for announcements throughout the year, do your research in regards to what's available in your area, and read up on their criteria! Put the dates in your calendar, and get creating! 💥
