Did you even have a 90s childhood if your parents knew where you were at all times? 😂

Looking back, some of it feels completely WILD.😜

But underneath the questionable safety standards, I think there’s an interesting conversation about independence.

Children need age-appropriate opportunities to help, take responsibility, problem-solve and experience that brilliant feeling of “I did it myself.”

We don’t need to recreate the 90s.

But perhaps there are a few things worth bringing forward with us.

👇 What’s the wildest thing you were allowed to do as a child that would NEVER happen now?

You cannot spoil a baby with cuddles. 🤍

This is one of the most common things I hear on visits usually said with love, often passed down through generations. But the evidence doesn’t support it.

In the early months, responding to your baby’s cries builds trust and secure attachment, not a “demanding” child. You’re allowed to hold your baby as much as you both need. You’re allowed to not respond instantly every single time, too you’re human, not a machine. Consistency over time is what counts.

Save this for the next time someone tells you you’re “making a rod for your own back.” 🪄

The Healthy Child Co was never about starting a business.

It was about making evidence-based parenting support accessible to every family.

After more than 10 years working with children and families, I saw too many parents feeling overwhelmed by conflicting advice, unrealistic expectations, and unnecessary guilt.

You don’t need perfection.
You need knowledge, confidence, and compassionate support.

That’s why I created The Healthy Child Co.

Thank you for being here and allowing me to be part of your parenting journey. It means more than you know. 💛

This one is for the dad’s quietly changing generations…

The dads who were raised in a world where they were told:
“Stop crying.”
“Boys don’t cry”
“Be strong.”
“Don’t be so sensitive.”

But have decided their children deserved something different….
Strength was never the absence of emotion.

True strength is learning how to understand emotions, express them safely, and support the people we love through theirs.

Research shows fathers play an important role in children’s emotional wellbeing, confidence, social development and resilience.

The bedtime stories.
The silly games.
The apologies after difficult moments.
The conversations previous generations never had.

These moments might feel small…But this is where secure relationships are built.

So to the dads learning a new way…
The dads healing parts of themselves while raising their children…
The dads choosing connection over fear…

Your child will feel the difference.

And maybe one day, because of you, they won’t have to break the same cycles.

Happy Father’s Day 💛

No one talks about this enough: you cannot help your child regulate their emotions if your own nervous system is on fire.

And before anyone says it, complete emotional regulation is not the goal.

I am positive that level of zen requires; a temple, on a mountain, dressed in a robe and approximately zero children asking you where their shoes are for the fourth time in one morning….

What we can do is work with what we have.

And what we have is this: notice what’s happening in your body, pausing long enough to make a choice, and repairing when we don’t get it right. That’s it. That’s the whole practice.

Every time you regulate in front of your child, you’re teaching them…
Every repair you make is a lesson in accountability.
Every “I need a moment” is a masterclass in self-awareness, even if what you actually needed was to scream into a pillow first.

You’re not raising a child in spite of your emotions. You’re raising one with them. 💛

Save this for the next time someone asks where their shoes are.

Ever said the “right” parenting line and watched it completely flop? You’re not doing it wrong, the script was never going to work the way it promised.

Parenting scripts are everywhere right now: the perfect phrase to defuse a tantrum, the magic words to “validate feelings,” the script that supposedly works every time.

But real life isn’t scripted.

Tone, timing, temperament, and context all shape how something lands, and no sentence can override a disconnected relationship.

The good news? You don’t need a script.

You need to understand why something is happening, stay regulated yourself, and respond to the person in front of you. That’s it. That’s the whole thing.

Save this for the next time you feel like you’re “failing” because the script didn’t work. You’re not failing the script was the problem.

Comment CALM for my guide to toddler emotions 💛

Some toddler advice online is accidentally making parenting harder.

Children don’t feel safe in the world because they’re allowed to do everything.

They feel safe because a calm, confident adult helps them understand the world.

A boundary says:
“I love you AND I won’t let you hurt me.”

“I understand you’re upset AND this still needs to happen.”

Emotional validation and boundaries are not opposites.
They work together.

Because children aren’t born knowing how to manage big feelings, frustration, disappointment, anger or impulses.

Connection changes behaviour because it changes how safe your child feels.

This does not mean having no boundaries.

It does not mean letting your child do whatever they want.

And it definitely does not mean ignoring behaviour that needs support.

It means understanding that children learn best when their nervous system is regulated, their relationship feels safe, and the adult beside them can guide without shame.

Before we correct behaviour, we often need to connect with the child underneath it.
