šŸ›£ļø The cones are gone, the diggers have moved on, and Burton’s latest town centre upgrade is officially finished.

A brand-new two-way cycleway between Burton station and the Town Hall has now opened after five months of work. Alongside the cycle track, crews also improved roads, pavements, crossings and bus stop infrastructure along Borough Road.

Some residents will be relieved the disruption is finally over - but will the new route become a busy part of town life?

Do you think more people in Burton will start cycling if safer routes like this continue to appear? 🚲

āš ļø Heads up Burton drivers — Derby Road works are coming

One of Burton’s busiest routes is about to get a Ā£2.3 million upgrade.

Work to fully resurface Derby Road between Derby Turn and the Pirelli roundabout starts on Monday 11 May and is expected to take around three months.

What to expect:
• One-way traffic system during early civil works
• Overnight resurfacing from 6 July (7pm–6am, Mon–Fri)
• Diversions via Hawkins Lane and the A38
• Temporary no on-street parking along parts of the route

The improvements should make journeys smoother once finished, but traffic disruption is likely while the work is underway.

āš ļø Parking rules have changed at the retail park by Burton’s Cineworld and Matalan.

For years many people have been used to parking there for up to 4 hours completely free.

However, new owners have introduced new tariffs this week, and the free parking period has now been reduced to just 2 hours.

If you stay longer than that — even by a minute — charges now apply, and drivers who don’t pay could face a Ā£100 parking charge.

There is a way some visitors can still get up to 4 hours free, depending on where you go inside the retail park.

Imagine waking up one morning… and discovering you’ve turned bright blue.

That’s exactly what happened to a man from Castle Gresley, who ended up taking an unexpected trip to Queen's Hospital Burton.

Doctors rushed to help - only to discover the culprit wasn’t a medical condition at all.

It was his brand-new bedsheets.

It turns out the visit gave Burton’s A&E team a rare bit of comedy during a busy shift.

A new campaign is calling for better protection of Staffordshire’s farmland from large solar farm developments.

Staffordshire County Council says it supports renewable energy but wants a national plan to balance energy production with food production.

The campaign encourages residents to sign a petition and write to their MP to help make the county’s voice heard.

But it raises a big question…

ā˜€ļø Where should solar panels go?
• On farmland
• On warehouse and factory roofs
• Over public car parks
• On brownfield sites

We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
